Rome or Dublin - Where would you go?

DH and I are looking to go away for a long weekend next year.
I really fancy the idea of Dublin, DH does too but he also things Rome or the like would be much more romantic.

We need suggestions on where to go and where to stay - Have been looking at Dublin and know Temble Bar is the main sort of area so would like to be quite close to that but not right on top of it, The only places I know of in Rome are the Vatican and Trevi Fountain so completely clueless there.
We will probably spend most of the weekend shopping, eating, walking - would like somewhere that is quite classy without being poncy

OK so my shortlist of hotels at the minute consists of Hotel Miami (Via Nazionale, 230 - 00185), Eurostars International Palace (46, Via Nazionale, 00184) & Concordia (Via Capo le Case 14, Roma, 00187) & Capo d'Africa Hotel (via capo d'africa 54, 00184).
Am I looking in the right sort of places ?
sorry for the thick questions

the capo d'africa is literally across the road from the lancelot, it did look nice i must say. a bit fancier than that lancelot.
i don't have time to look at them now as am going out, but i will later if you like.

Rome definitely, expensive but then so is Dublin, much more romantic and less stag/hen parties!

FoghornLeghorn · 25/08/2006 13:35

Fantastic Aitch, thanks.
At least I know I am looking in the right sort of place

the concordia is in a great location but i'm not in love with the rooms. somethign about overbed storage space not conducive to a romantic weekend...

eurostars looks nice and they've done the termini area up recently and it's got great links but i've never stayed there (probably cos i remember what it used to be like... sheer prejudice.) i know people who have stayed in that area and loved it. and looking at the candid traveller photos on tripadvisor (so worth checking) it looks nice and modern.

hotel miami. good location, ever so slightly nearer to things than eurostars although on the same street. better rooms than the concordia.

and then i saw the sun terrrace and roof garden on the capo d'africa, and the view of the colosseum reminded me of dancing on the roof garden of the lancelot on the night of my wedding, so that sealed the deal. it might look slightly further out than some of the others but i assure you it isn't. plus it's right on loads of bus and a couple of underground lines if you really can't be bothered walking. i think the rooms look nice, unfussy and modern and the breakfast area looks lovely. plus i know you'll enjoy eating in the nearby restaurants, i just wish i could remember the name of the best one. it has loads of tables sitting outside and it's bang next door to another restaurant which basically looks exactly the same. it's about one street down from capo d'africa and i want to call it vincenzo's or somethign but that may have been the name of our waiter...hic.

it'll be great. and if you decide it's too pricey just go across the road to my old pal lancelot.

having lived in dublin for a year... ROME, definitely, without a doubt rome! especially as it's a romantic weekend... nothing romantic about a few thousand drunk knackers fighting on o connol street and throwing up all over the place

PinkTulips · 28/08/2006 00:05

o connol? o connel obviously typing while feeding not working out so well!

FoghornLeghorn · 29/08/2006 17:05

Thanks Aitch, I really appreciate your views.
I must admit it was the roof terrace with the view that was swinging it for me.
I will see what deals i can come up with out of the eurostars, hotel miami, capo d'africa & lancelot. Am getting so excited, cannot wait to get it booked.

and the campo di fiori one, too, it's a great area as well. i'd keep an eye on them all... apart from concordia.
