DH & I are looking to book a weekend away in July for our first wedding anniversary. We are open to any options at the minute, have thought of Rome, Venice, Paris, DH even suggested tagging a few days on a really splashing out and going to New York - We've always wanted to go but what with having kids young and then the wedding haven't had the chance yet.

Can anyone make any recommendations for us - like i said, anything is an option at the minute

New York is fun - but just too tiring to be romantic - I'd opt for Venice or Florence OR Tallinn in Estonia - it's just beautiful see here:

We spent 4 nights in Florence last October. It was stunningly beautiful, and we had the most fantastic time. We got a superb deal through Expedia which meant that we stayed in an incredibly smart hotel which would normally cost 650 euros per night, but cost us 500 pounds for us both including flights for the whole 4 nights! It was amazing!

let me know if you want more info.

Happy Anniversary!

We had our 10th Anniversary last month and had planned to go to Monte Carlo. Due to pressure at work ended up going just 10 miles to the Samling at Windermere, very lovely but £££.

Of the big Italian 3 I would opt for Florence as the most perfect romantic location... memories argghhh!

Venice is the most romantic city. We took a boat from the airport to the city, which was amazing and the views were staggering. I can't believe such a beautiful place exists. Here's the website for probably the best hotel
www.hotelcipriani.com
There are also the small islands around Venice, such as Torcello which has a smaller branch of the Cipriani, very romantic and secluded. Here's its site:

Hope this helps.

Vienna

FoghornLeghorn · 25/08/2006 11:43

Sorry guys. Wasn't being rude by not coming back to this.
I thought we had decided on Rome, but now i'm not so sure again. Have a friend who has been to Rome, Milan, Venice etc and although she said Venice was the most romatic, it was considerably more expensive and she would recommend Rome.

Oh the decisions, the decisions.

Paris, has to be for classic romantic moments like standing on the steps of the Palais de Challiot watching the lights twinkling on the Eiffel Tower, or wandering along the banks of the Seine, whispering sweet nothings over a coffee in a quirky cafe, or perhaps falling out while getting lost on the metro, arguing because he wants to walk for miles while you just want to get another coffee, or him losing the will to live as you dive into yet another little shop .

Another vote for Paris here - also, having flown last week, I personally would far prefer the comfort of Eurostar at the moment rather than the hassle of airports. Last time we went we upgratded to "Leisure First" class and it was fab. Champagne, nice food served at your seat by handsome young men and a general feeling of luxury.

Barcelona! Friendlier than Paris, excellent architecture and art galleries, all the Gaudi and Picasso stuff, lovely pavement cafes, nice parks it even has a nice beach! Fab metro system, Try the Rivoli Ramblas on the Ramblas very central.

We went to Venice for our first wedding anniversary, Paris for our second (with baby) and Rome for our 5th (which co-incided with DH's 40th). All wonderful places, although Venice just tipped it for me. BUT our anniversary is in January, when it's wonderfully quiet, if cold (although we had clear blue skies on all trips). I first went to Venice years before at Easter and it was so crowded it was a completely different experience. I would probably prefer Paris in July, but it depends how you view crowds and hotter weather. We're going back in September for my 40th, which I'm really looking forward to. New York is great too, especially if it's somewhere you've always wanted to go - can you combine it with a family holiday in New York State?
