Eurocamp (or similar) virgin

Can someone give me some advice please?

We have a very limited window in which to go away but its in May half term (we only have a toddler) so is pricy.

We've got 5 days and so were thinking of heading for somewhere eurocamp-y for some sun. But we don't know where to head to. There's a site in Biarritz which has lots of stuff and a kids club, but looks a bit, err, loud. Alternatively there's a site near Venice which is quieter but has slightly better reviews.

We'd be flying so can travel anywhere. Does anyone have any suggestions for other similar options, and whether its worth booking with eurocamp or direct with the site (there's not much price difference).

Thank you!

We've been to brilliant Keycamp/Eurocamp places at I Pini (very small and quiet - ideal for a toddler) near Rome and Dol de Bretagne in Normandy, which was large but spectacular and not too noisy - on site pony rides, pedalos, play parks, market, lots of indoor and outdoor pools, treehouses etc. Also stayed at one near Venice which imho was grim (Ca Savio.) But there are loads near Venice. I think we just got unlucky.

Oh bugger, it was Ca Savio I was looking at Sad. What didn't you like about it?

How would the Normandy weather be in late May? Like here?

I have a place on a Siblu site in the vendee which is free at May half term as we have had a cancellation. PM and I can give you more details.

Don't know those locations, but we booked direct with the site once, and ended up with paper sheets.

We had a great time at Ca Savio, it's right near the beach and really easy to do a day trip into Venice.

Union Lido is very good.

Daisybell1 · 12/04/2014 10:03

Ooh, that sounds a bit more positive for Ca Savio. I'll check out Union Lido as well - that's in the same area, isn't it?

I Pini looks lovely too - hmm, Venice or Rome, Venice or Rome?

Creamy's right. It is right near the beach and it is very easy to do Venice day trips. Also brilliant for island trips as the boat stops in Ca savio, just about 10 mins walk from the camp site, so is much cheaper than the other island trips. Also, Ca savio does have a lovely looking toddler pool which DC didn't have access to.

We didn't like it because we were there in high summer and the mobile homes were sweltering. No air con, one fan between three bedrooms. It was impossible to sleep. The roads were all dusty and unmade, which meant you got pebbles in your sandals and trod gritty sand into the home which got into the beds and the showers. The windows were broken which meant mozzies got in at night and bit DC so they were constantly sleep deprived and uncomfortable. And the pool was a bit dull for older DC. If you didn't do laps there was nothing else to do. Extras such as bouncy castles, trampolines etc which were free at all other sites we'd visited, cost a whopping £3 per person per session there too, so you couldn't just dip in and out of them for a few minutes a day.

None of these are a massive deal, but after the gorgeous, clean, tranquil settings of I Pini and Chateau des Ormes at Dol, Ca savio felt grubby, money grabbing, run down and physically uncomfortable. There are lots of sites along the Venetian coast. I'd probably look for a bigger or more modern one next time.

If you do go I definitely recommend La Trattoria Pizeria, great food and delicious sparkling wine.
