the Foreign office have a good website about stuff like this

I'm sure it won;t be a problem though

LIZS · 21/08/2006 17:08

Not heard anything of this , but wasn't it a few weeks back according to BBC? Doubt you'll get any money back if you cancel now so can you give it a week or two before finally deciding ?

intergalacticwalrus · 21/08/2006 17:11

Yes, it happened at the end of July. The German authorities are still investigating. TBH, there is a threat of this sort of thing wherever you go now, I'm afraid

It's a pile of pants isn't it ... everywhere appears to be fair game for some form of terrorist activity.

We're off to N. France and Belgium this week - SIL and BIL ( obsessively neat, clean, tidy - no kids - there's a recipe for disaster then !!) live in Mons as he's on a posting to Supreme Headqurters Allied Powers Europe ( SHAPE) and they are on permanent high alert - check under your cars before you set off anywhere etc ... I just know I'll forget !!

Thanks for all the answers, we will take our 5 years old son in this trip, his grandparents disagree mightily since they know bomb found in Germany.

but what a pity to a little boy can't go to paris Disneyland and germany Legoland, as for me, i expecting a europe travel a long time ago, if this trip cancelled this time, the next chance will be three years later at least. because we are planing have a second baby at the end of this year.

the plane tickets just reserved, i didn't pay for it until now.

any good suggestions? or any other good travel place (suitable little kid) could be recommend?

Germany is fine. the wannabe bomber and hite mate are a couple of lone perpetrators who are not too bright.

TBH I'm bemused that you would even consider cancelling your trip because of this?! There are nutters everywhere in the world.

Seeing that Germany has kept out of all the middle east conflicts, I'd consider it a much safer place to be than the UK.

SSSandy · 22/08/2006 08:24

davidmama, I live in Germany. No one seems fazed or particularly worried. Where would you be going in Germany (which airport, towns?). Are there any questions I can help you with?

As for alternative destinations, I've just come back from Denmark (Legoland in Billund is fantastic!). I have to say Denmark wins hands down over Germany for child-friendliness. The people there are just lovely and they couldn't be kinder to children. If I had the choice between Denmark and Germany, I'd choose Denmark every time but I don't know what you're looking for in your holiday -rest or culture, nature or buildings?

tbh I agree with geekgirl, it doesn't sound like the plot is any wider and, sadly, you have a higher chance of being caught up in something over here than in Germany atm. Are the Grandparents saying this German or British ? Personally I'd still go as planned.

SSSandy · 22/08/2006 13:38

The media here seem more concerned with how neo-nazi groups will react to the bombing attempt than with further bombings.

There seem to have been a lot of false alarms at train stations so people obviously are on the look-out. Really I wouldn't like to say whether you'd be safe to travel to Germany or not. - Or in fact to travel anywhere for that matter these days.

SSSandy · 23/08/2006 14:17

davidmama
Just wanted to add that my dad called today to say he's coming for a week or so but he has decided to travel by train (despite those attempted train bombings) in order to avoid all the security hassle at the airport!

Deeply gratefulany to SSSandy, LIZ and geekgrrl, all of your enthusiastic reply make me feel this forum is a warm place.

After discuss with grandparents, they agree my husband and me go to travel, but my son must leave at home. There are some background shoud know, we are traditional Chinese family, my son is the ONLY boy in his generation(my husband's brothers all procreate girls), therefore, my son is valued by everybody in our family, especially the grandparents.

But if this trip without my son, will be full of unhappy and guilt.........

Whatever the final result, thanks again to everyone helped me.
