We are looking for a very short weekend away for about 6 women (my ante-natal class). We want walking/hiking and shopping to be nearby. Some want to walk and some want to shop. We all live south or wes of London. It will probably just be leave early Saturday morning and make Sunday afternoon. So, minimal travel time is also required. We've talked about Oxforshire, Cambridgeshire, Bath, and Kent. Any idea/recommendations? Oh the date is November 4th.

Sheringham is lovely, and all places in close vicinity of. Amazing salt plains. Can't remember the place with the vast stretch of beach where people ride horses along and fly kites. You can't see the sea it's all muddy type sand, and sand dunes and trees, it's lovely. And again locally to Sheringham there a place where you can spot seals. Cromer is local and famous for it's crab.
I went there earlier in the year and would go back, i loved it.

Uwila · 21/08/2006 11:46

Where is Sheringham? (stupid American alert) And would you still recommend it in November?

OP posts:
Uwila · 21/08/2006 11:49

Hmmm... Sheringham looks interesting. I've not seen much at all of the East Coast of England. Can you tell me more?

Yes I would recommend it in Nov. Our 1st day was sunny, 2nd raining and still loved it.
It's Norfolk basically.
Will do some googling for you and find you some links.

Uwila · 21/08/2006 13:16

Bump for afternoon crowd. Anyone stayed anywhere they could recommend. I've tried googling, but there is just TOO MUCH information. So, I thought I mumsnetter recommendation might be a better way...

Holkham - that's the name of the place with the amazing beach.
V near Sheringham, an easy and lovely drive there.

mazzystar · 21/08/2006 21:34

Holkham is great. You can take rooms or even hire a cottage at the Victoria at Holkham, and the pub is fantastic, great food. There's posh shopping at Burnham Market, and some at Wells, and lovely, lovely walking all around.

Thanks, guys. Has anyone actually stayed at the Victoria? What would be the best way to get there from London, drive or train?

OP posts:
mazzystar · 22/08/2006 15:59

I stayed at one of the lodges at Holkham as part of my honeymoon. It was divine. here they also have a new pub at wells with rooms.

I think driving is probably best option.

yeahinaminute · 22/08/2006 16:03

Bath - but then I would say that being a Bathbunion loike - Bristol is good too

But if you make it to Bath - IntergalacticW and I can give you a walking tour !! there may be a few pubs involved however !

NotActuallyAMum · 22/08/2006 16:05

No idea but can I come?

Uwila · 23/08/2006 08:47

Still pondering the options. Others seem to be leaning towards Bath. Any hotel / B&B recommendations for Bath?
