Puerto Pollensa, Cala D'or or somewhere else?

Got flights booked to Majorca. Struggling to decide where to go. Want something not purpose built, more traditional and not full of English pubs. Children aged 9 and 7 would like a bit of kids club/ entertainment but nothing too big. Would prefer SC to AI. Anybody help?

Puerto Pollensa is very nice, lovely long beach - only downside is it's quite a trek from Palma airport, maybe 2 hours? Cala d'Or is lovely, nice town and lots of small cove beaches, but again a trek from Palma.

Soller is a nice town, small but plenty of bars, nice promenade and beach. Little train goes to Soller Town among the orange groves, and from there you can go on another little train to Palma. Nice scenery round about there - Valdemossa is very pretty.

Puerto Pollensa definitely. I didn't like Cal d'Or but maybe I missed something, not sure. Anyway we took a trip to PP and I wished we'd been staying there instead.

:)

Sa coma is nice too, but puerto pollensa is the nicest. Villa concha apartments are great!

Puerto Pollensa gets my vote been there a few times and have been to Cala D'or only the once and would not go back again. Cala D'or has a very nice Marina but I thought the rest was very tacky. As said above Soller is also very good.

Puerto Pollensa is nice, along with Cala D'or. I prefer Cala Bona as it's quieter and good access to puerto and other resorts on east coast such as sa coma.

Cala Ratjada on NE peninsula. The main beach of lovely sand is backed by pine tree forest as part of nature reserve. The harbour area didn't have any English pubs three years ago. It is a resort favoured more by Germans.

Thanks for the replies. I think we may book villa concha in pollensa.

Can anyone tell me a bit more about what there is to do in Puerto Pollensa for young children eg. four year old?

The scenery is lovely but I am wondering if it is a bit quiet.

Also, is it better to stay the pine-walk side of the marina or the beach side of the marina? How busy is that beach road in early July?

I wasn't overly impressed with P Pollensa to be honest! We had a better holiday at Club Martha in Cala d'Or! Both were a bit touristy but dc liked that - beaches weren't great at either resort - we live near so e of the best beaches in Scotland so may be fussy!- Cala d'Or had a nicer atmosphere and meals, drinks etc were half the price of pp!! We were actually in Caka Egos which was near Cala d'Or.

Caka Egos GrinGrin So many people I know that would fit.

Puerto Pollensa isn't 2h from airport - nowhere is. Depending on traffic it's about 40 mins once you're in the hire car.

I'm another one who thought Puerto Pollensa was a bit meh although we did find a bar with a gin menu, which may explain why it is so popular on Mumsnet.

I liked Puerto Soller much better (we stayed in Peguera on the south coast and had a day in PS, PP and another on the east coast at a tiny beach called Cala Llombards.

To the PP who stayed at Club Martha - is it walking distance (up to a mile or so) from at least some of the Cala D'Or coves, or is it further than that? I keep seeing that hotel on the web but worry that it is a little far away from CDOr.

OP, if you are interested, Peguera/Paguera is a lovely resort just west of Santa Ponsa on the south coast. You would have to book independently as I believe that it is mainly aimed at Germans and not within the realms of UK package holidays.

All the restaurants menus have menus that are Spanish translated into German although some also had English and other language pages and it was fun trying to guess what some of the food was.

We walked into Cala D'Or from Club Martha in about 20 mins - nice wee walk through the marina. Usually got tourist bustrain or taxi back as dc were exhausted. There's enough shops, bars and restaurants in Cala Egos to jeep you going and a nice wee taverna style pub at the co e nearest the hotel which has an unfortunate name. Cala D'en Pou and ds just had to refer to it as Poo Beach of course! Fab restaurant with pool between club Martha and beach - part of the Rocmarine hotel (the tennis restaurant) and I would def recommend it as well as the ever popular Tony's! Loads of lovely places in Cala D'Or itself as well. We loved Club Martha and it's very international - not just Brits abroad which was great! Dd befriended some Icelandic girls and when we went (1st fortnight in July) it was mostly Scandinavian families with Scots and Irish and the odd English family - no Welsh that year! Kids/teens clubs were fantastic and my dc actually went as they got to do proper activities such as Total Wipeout, rifle shooting etc. entertainment was cheesy but better 'quality' cheese than some hotels - dc lived it and wanted to fe back for it most nights!! Apartments were really spacious and very clean - think there are done in the older part so ask for the new bit near reception.
