Can we take a bottle of champagne in luggage to Turkey?

Dh, dc and I are going to turkey in a couple months. We would like to take a bottle of two of champagne with us, it'll be my birthday out there and thought it'll be nice to have a glass at the hotel.

Are we allowed to do this? Or are there restrictions?

Should we instead buy duty free in turkey instead?

Thank you.

Isn't the limit on liquid in hand luggage 100mls??

I haven't done it in a while but I'm pretty sure that once you're past security you can buy over 100ml items in duty free, and then you collect them from the plane later.

Merrow · 07/04/2014 15:28

Past security? Obviously that should be passed!

yourlittlesecret · 07/04/2014 15:32

You are on holiday just buy some there!

Monty27 · 08/04/2014 01:35

Oh fgs. yes 100ml or buy it after baggage control, you can buy it on the other side in duty free at inflated prices. Get it when you're there. Have a good time. :)

It's good to plan this two months before you go. Hmm

CharityCase · 08/04/2014 02:06

Wine and champagne are two different things though because wine isn't fizzy. Champagne night explode if the air bubbles expand but I don't know whether the conditions of the hold would make this happen.

From memory I think you're looking at 60 or 70 euros a bottle in the supermarket and about 125 if you buy it from the hotel so double that in Tl. and that would be a moet or something along those lines youd get a piper or a lanson in duty free in the UK for half that. Also I may be generalising here but every turkish hotel I've stayed in have had a problem with us bringing things in from the local supermarkets so I'd always go down the bottle in the hand luggage route. We tend to just drink Efes, but I'll be on the sour cherry juice this year.

No limit on mls once you are through security, buy it in the shops after security & take it in your hand luggage. I wouldn't put it in the hold.

Ememem84 · 08/04/2014 06:57

If you buy it airside it'll be uk prices. Wait until you're there. The Turkish lira rate is good at present. Everything is much cheaper.

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 08/04/2014 11:10

yourlittle secret & Ememem, as I said before Champagne is very expensive in Turkey. I would never buy a bottle out there, it could break the bank...! Alcohol isn't cheap in Turkey any more and anything imported is expensive. Best stick to the Efes Wink

If you are worried about it in the luggage I would get it at the airport, you can carry it on the plane if you buy it in duty free. Do you have a fridge in your hotel room?

Threepiece Robinsons do a new ultra concentrated squash in a small squeezy bottle - you could take that with you for DD? Grin

Legologgo · 08/04/2014 11:26

Just don't drink squash. It's gopping

threepiecesuite · 08/04/2014 14:11

Thank you TheMonkey, I saw that advertised and thought it did look ideal for holidays, camping, days out etc. Although I've tried the double concentrate and it's not the same at all, but dd won't notice probably.
