I booked a holiday 5 days in Spain going next Tuesday am very excited for our first holiday there are 6 of us going my dh and daughter sister and bf and parents

Was looking forward to it until it hit me... What is my baby going to eat? We are taking prescription formula as she is dairy free but have no idea about meals can't take food into the country and just wondered what anyone would do? Anyone taken a baby abroad what did they eat?

DS is dairy free too.

Are you staying in a hotel? Or self catering?

You could pack a few Ella's kitchen type bits?

pinkapples · 06/04/2014 21:21

Yes it's a hotel and we are going all inclusive Grin

I thought about that but it's food and although it's the EU they say no foodstuffs unless special ie prescription

Presumably they have food for babies in Spain, or the Spanish population would die out pretty fast!

somersethouse · 06/04/2014 21:23

I live in Spain. I don't understand your question, sorry if I am being a bit dim, but my DD at 10 months ate probably what your child eats.

It's only Spain!
Happy to answer any specific question, but yours is a bit vague!

somersethouse · 06/04/2014 21:24

Fruit, cereal, bread, cheese, ham, fresh juices, pasta, avocados, tomatoes. All fresh as can be.

mummy1973 · 06/04/2014 21:24

Hi. We took dd to Spain when she was 10 months. We self catered. We took some jars with us but by then she was not really eating those and eating what we ate. I remember her eating lots of fresh fruit salad, pasta and bread, meats, cheeses. Hope you have a lovely time.

somersethouse · 06/04/2014 21:25

Rice and fantastic seafood.

Whereabouts in Spain as regions differ greatly.

pinkapples · 06/04/2014 21:26

I'm not really sure either to be fair was just looking for reassurance sorry if that's daft! I know there are Spanish babies lol Grin obviously there are dairy free Spanish babies too I presume just wondered if the hotel would cater for them

snap mummy1973 !

JuniperTisane · 06/04/2014 21:26

Id have thought she can just have little bits of whats available for everyone else.

shallweshop · 06/04/2014 21:26

It's fine, it's Spain! Whatever she has here you can get there. Have a great time.

Panzee · 06/04/2014 21:26

My son ate practically nothing because it was so hot. :) one year it was toast and yoghurt, another pretty much just blueberries. The year after that we progressed to sausages. It was stressful the first time because I was worried he wasn't eating much but after that I relaxed and let him eat whatever took his fancy.

Have a fantastic time. :)

pinkapples · 06/04/2014 21:27

Won't be cheeses as she's dairy free but thanks for the reassurance x

I'm still not clear, cater for them in what way?

I would ask your hotel if you have specific concerns. Hopefully it is Spanish, you will get far better food and no fast food if it is.

JuniperTisane · 06/04/2014 21:31

Just avoid creamy sauces, mashed potato etc as you would at home. It should be easy to get fish, rice, pasta, meat dishes. 10 months is a nice age if she has an appetite as she will prety much accept anything you put on her plate and throw it

Or she might live on blueberries as pp said.

pinkapples · 06/04/2014 21:44

I can't seem to find an email for the hotel but I think she'll be fine she can just pick until she's full I guess she's eating lumpy food so no need for a blender and she eats fresh at home so she'll be fine thanks again

I took Ella's pouches in our checked in luggage and it was fine.

1stMrsF · 06/04/2014 21:50

At 10m she should be able to eat whatever you eat.

JohnnyBarthes · 06/04/2014 21:52

Are you really not allowed to take food into Spain? Confused

I'm not saying you should, btw.

somersethouse · 06/04/2014 21:53

Enjoy! The weather is fabulous at the moment and Easter is very special here!

somersethouse · 06/04/2014 21:54

Yes you can bring food in and out. Definitely.

JohnnyBarthes · 06/04/2014 21:56

People drive from country to country all the time, bringing food home from supermarkets over the border and whatnot. I can't see it being illegal or remotely problematic.

I suppose it's a pita if you're flying though.

IamInvisible · 06/04/2014 22:02

I've just come back from an AI holiday to Cape Verde. There were quite a few babies there.

At breakfast there was everything from a full English, omelettes, pancakes, pastries, croissants, fruit, cereals (you put your own milk on so she could have dry), salamis, ham, cheeses, cucumbers, breads, jams and loads of fruits, yogurts.

Lunches, sliced cucumber, tomato, grated carrot, grated raw courgette, grated raw butternut squash(that was yummy) cheeses, cold meats, chips, breads, soups, burgers, hot dogs, fish, chicken, paella, chilli, pasta, breaded chicken, fruit, cakes, ice cream.

Evening meal, carvery, loads of veg, fish, lamb or pork chop type thing, steak, rice, pasta, pizza, soups, goulash, casseroles, steak, kebabs, salads, seafood, fruit, chips, jelly, mousses, cakes, etc.

It was endless. Honestly there was so much choice it was overwhelming at times, she really won't starve.

Have a great time.Smile

You say dairy free, does that mean no eggs (sorry showing my ignorance)? In Spain DS often used to eat Revuelta (sp?) which is scrambled egg with things like asparagus in it.

My DC would eat fish, shellfish, salad, bread, fruit, there is also a chickpea stew called "cocido" that I used to mash the chick peas (called Garbansos) down.

You can now buy fruit pouches (saw them last summer for the first time)

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 07/04/2014 10:42

Surely she can eat the same as she does at home? Meat, chicken, fish, vegetables, fruit, pasta, rice etc.

I think you are worrying too much.
