Hi Ivet, I'm not in Derby but a small town outside. What would you like to know?

Frizbe · 16/08/2006 21:50

hello, I'm also from a small town outside of Derby, as does Fairydust and Daemara (SP) Astrophe is kicking around somewhere and lives in Derby too!

LaylaandSethsmum · 16/08/2006 21:55

Hi Ivet, I live in Kilburn about 7 miles north of Derby but from Derby originally so know it very well. Having also lived in Londo can say Derby is much nicer! What do you want to know? Where will you be living?

ivet83 · 17/08/2006 08:51

Ivet83, is your dh with a brewery?? just thinking on, as if he joins Ansells for instance, then he could get a pub, which would include the house, problem solved for housing!

ivet83 · 17/08/2006 09:03

it's capital pub company but they have pubs only in london.when you say house you mean a flat upstrairs, right?

OP posts:
Frizbe · 17/08/2006 09:05

Yep! the old flat upstairs, but at least it comes with Fridge, cooker, washing machine etc! Some of the pub flats up here are quite spacious not sure what they're like London way space wise?

Frizbe · 17/08/2006 09:08

estateagents
or
agents

ivet83 · 17/08/2006 09:28

i think that to get a pub like this you need to apply for tenancy or lease but you quite a lot of money to invest which we don't have.that's why we just thought of looking for jobs, anyway i am not too keen to raise my child in a pub

I can see what you mean, but if your managing pubs its often better to live on site, due to the hours as I'm sure you know, however you could always run the joint and rent out the flat above?? and live in your own house?? just a thought, as most landlord jobs tend to be in house for pubs, sure there must be a few bars with offsite management in Notts/Derby as well tho!

ivet83 · 17/08/2006 16:19

we'll see.tell me more about employment in general.what about other jobs.

I live in Derby and I'd say there's a fair amount of work around. There's a new shopping centre opening so there will be a number of retail jobs when that opens. The University, Council and Hospital always seem to have jobs going, Rolls Royce and Toyota both have big plants in the city too.

We've been in the city for 12 months and love it. The commute into Nottingham or to the area around East Midlands Airport is ok too.

ivet83 · 19/08/2006 10:44

thank you for your help.do you know how the beauty jobs are for example.i am a massage therapist and will probably look for that kind of job

OP posts:
marialuisa · 21/08/2006 11:11

Not really-we've just had a new beauty place open down the road from us and the hairdressers I go to is advertising for someone so I guess there's demand. There are lots of gyms around which seem to do that kind of thing as well. Have to confess it's not really my scene so I'm not much help.
