Hi we are getting married in Sweden in Dec and family are all getting together amd making it a bit of a holiday. It is however turning into a bit of a nightmare with regards to the amount of stuff to take. Can car seats be hired without a hire car? any tips for holidays in the snow?? Or anything I need to remember that I have probably forgotten??

You will need a decent footsack(not sure what the UK equivalent is)for your buggy. Very common on the continent to use a sheepskin one, perhaps you might be able to borrow one in Sweden?

Take your own car seat, you will not be charged carriage for it by the airline and it will not count against your luggage allowance. Just pop it in a bin liner.

Take tights for the little one, even if he is a ds!

Whereabouts are you going, Lozza26?

Lozza26 · 10/08/2006 12:56

We are going to Isaberg (nr Hestra in Smalland-sp! in the south of Sweden for Xmas (my Uncle and family live there) and then travelling to Idre Fjall on the 28th Dec for a week with the wedding being on the 30th.

Fantastic! Our dd loved sledging etc. I actually have a footsack I bought and used in Sweden for dd - not used any more. Not sheepskin but waterproff and very padded and lined - it's a silvery grey colour. You'd be welcome to it for postage - email me at lesleydotubatorangedotnet (yes I will do my CAT thing, just haven't yet) if you want more details. Also have some fab mini-braces type clips to keep gloves on which proved vital.

How fantastic, do you need a bridesmaid? went on holiday in Feb this year with the family and we all had a brilliant time. Would love to go back again sometime. All I can say is lots of layers and make sure the little ones have nice warm hats and gloves (lots of different ones as if they are anything like mine they couldn't keep their hands out of the snow hence their fingers got very cold & wet) Good luck have a great time at your 'white wedding'

We went to Sweden last year in Feb to visit family. I so loved it cos I so like snow. I'll ask my sil for her advice.
My family bought us a snow suit for my dd(4) and zip on pink snow boots which were fantastic. I know Millets do that sort of boot so maybe worth a look. Also check out snow stuff in H&M and TK Maxx
We got snow anoraks and ski pants in TK Maxx quite cheaply and bought some thermal underwear and a good fleece and waterproof walking boots.
My family live 2-3 hours north of Stockholm and it got down to -14 one night. It didn't stop my dd or us.I don't know if the south is significantly warmer

I'm so jealous. I love Sweden but can't afford to go at the moment.

Thanks everyone for your advice, it is really handy! Although I have been many times before it is usually only in the south and I know the north is a lot colder. Things are progressing slowly although I am not too sure what affect the new terrorist threat will have on our travel plans (well more luggages plans) by Dec! Swedishmum- thanks very much, I have emailed you
