No bath on holiday - what do we do?

Hi everyone,

We're about to go on a family holiday here in the UK but I've found out that there is no bath in the accommodation, only a shower. DS is 14 months old and so only has baths (when he's had a shower run on him he's hated it!). Does anyone have any tips? Sorry if this is a silly concern, it's our first time away and I don't know what it'll be like!

Thanks

go swimming

Bozza · 09/08/2006 10:38

When we went with only a shower last year with a 4yo and a 13 mo I bought a travel plug on these lines. Mine was from Lakeland but I can't find one on there now. Anyway I put it over the drain from the shower, ran the shower until there was a couple of inches of water in the tray and then sat the children in the bottom.

we had this one year - did what Bozza did - you can get travel plugs from camping-type shops too

We had a similar problem to this and only found out on arrival - DD1 was a similar age to yours. We bought a paddling pool and a bucket to fill it up (no hose). A bit tedious but the weather was good and she loved it.
Alternatively, if there is a pool nearby, swimming before bed, change into PJs, fall asleep in the car on the way back...bottle of wine, cheese, bagueete, adult time..

I wash my 16 mnth dts in the sink if I don't have time for running a bath!

LemonTart · 09/08/2006 10:43

Forgot to say, we couldn?t do the plug thing. Depends on the shower tray, some shower trays are flat to the ground/slopes away if in a wet room so worth checking accomodation owners first. xx

Take a large plastic crate (ideal for carrying all your groceries in).

Unload your groceries, and then you have the crate, which you can fill from the shower and have a nice baby-sized bath. Perfect!

Definitely buy a travel plug & fill up the shower tray. I've done it loads of times with mine.

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 09/08/2006 12:23

travel plugs fit over ones that are flat to the ground (ours did anyway)

LIZS · 09/08/2006 12:27

Small paddling pool - Pound stores used to do ones about 2' across - or one of those long tubes you can put over a kitchen sink plug ?

HellyMnelly · 10/08/2006 11:18

Thanks everyone, I'm feeling a lot more confident now!

you can buy an inflatable baby bath. mothercare or bruin , i think.

Medulla · 14/08/2006 15:47

Just been away for a weekend same problem, washed 1 year and 3 year old a washing up bowl on the floor. They thought it was great!

PrettyCandles · 14/08/2006 15:52

We've bathed ds in the kitchen sink when we had no access to a bath. He loved it! At that age they already have a sense of the ridiculous .

Don't bother with an inflatable bath for a 14mo - he'll be far too big for it. Also, it's worth asking (I presume this is a self-catering cottage) whether they will provide a babybath as well as the cot, high-chair, etc. We holidayed in a lovely cottage with only a shower and they provided a babybath which we put on the enormous old kitchen table, and bathed ds in front of a lovely, cosy, roaring coal fire. What an experience!

noonar · 14/08/2006 18:23

my 4 yo and 2 yo shared a baby bath placed in shower tray when we were in greece- got back yesterday. was a bit tight, but they loved it!

hana · 14/08/2006 18:29

I've used a bucket when there hasn't been a bath, has been ok ( placed in the shower though!)
