Hi
We are going to Iceland for 5 days between christmas and New year. (Celebrating DHs 50th).Have booked flights, hotel and car hire. What things are possible to do at this time of year? Any must-do recommendations? There are 4 of us, me, DH, DS (12) and DD (7).

It's a fab place, will be very cold and dark in December, but still fab.

Some great - and expensive - restaurants in Rejkyavik, all the geysers, blue lagoon etc.

There was a thread about Iceland not too long ago, if you can do a search that might help

We went at Easter. Blue Lagoon is a must. I second CQ about restaurants - esp price! We went to Tvoa Fiskar - fantastic fish but hugely expensive. Glacier bashing looks fun though we didn't try it. Geysers were great. We hired a car but there are loads of coach trips.

Thanks everyone, we are busy looking through guide books, blue lagoon looks a must. I'm not sure what the travel conditions will be like for driving across the country. We may be being a tad adventurous!

Some of the roads are no go across the top of the island particularly for non 4wd. They rebuild some of them every year! There are some great main routes around the island though. Will look out the obligatory junk I brought home with the aim of doing a project tomorrow.
