I booked my neilson holiday and quoted mums net and they discounted my holiday by £1000!

Neilsons isn't a big holiday company though. It's a small firm set up by a couple of brothers down here in Brighton, HQ at the marina.

diabolo · 04/02/2014 19:28

Specialists though, in activity holidays. Not bloody First Choice / Thomsons.

Happypeeps11 · 04/02/2014 19:29

Diabolo , it's fine, everyone wants something different from a holiday anyway. To us it's worth the spend. I am interested in suggestions that fit my criteria though.

Join the Royal Yachting Association, buy a new £50,000 Volvo and you could have saved a whopping £10,000. Yes, £10K.

Happypeeps11 · 04/02/2014 19:39

And that Is a good holiday suggestion for us because??

OP posts:
Happypeeps11 · 04/02/2014 19:39

Oh and I don't want a Volvo thanks but I would love a nice holiday!!

I hope you have a good holiday but £8500 for two weeks, unless you have 6 kids this seems like a rip off

Happypeeps11 · 04/02/2014 19:50

Do u have any suggestions for alternatives that fit the bill? Pun not intended

OP posts:
AuditAngel · 04/02/2014 19:52

DBIL recommends Lykia World in Turkey for lots of kids activities. We were going to book there for Easter, but DH invited MIL to join us and as she has limited mobility Lykia World isn't suitable for her.

Instead we are going on a 12 day cruise to Italy and the Black Sea. It is a big holiday for us, a treat using part of an inheritance. My kids have never been to a kids club before.

Happypeeps11 · 04/02/2014 19:53

There seems to be a lot of criticism but not many ideas for alternatives??

frenchfancy · 04/02/2014 19:53

Ignore them Happypeeps I think you've got a good deal and it sound like you will hve a great holiday.

Happypeeps11 · 04/02/2014 19:56

Thanks Audit, I will take a look. I hope you have a fabulous cruise. I am afraid Dh doesn't like cruising !

As far as discounts go, it's not much more than 10%. The same as getting £10 off your £95 holiday. Or 10 pence off your 95 pence bar of chocolate.

It's only a big discount because it's a large amount of money changing hands. So really it's just a boastful thread about how much your holiday costs.

Creamycoolerwithcream · 04/02/2014 20:10

I've found it gets quite difficult to find suitable holidays once the DC are teens. We also do cruises or hotels with lots of activities or cities near the sea and sightseeing. I hope you have a lovely holiday.

AngelFalls · 04/02/2014 20:10

Sorry, but I'd expect Florida for that sort of money :S

ihatethecold · 04/02/2014 20:14

So what if it's a bit boastful.
It's not hurting anyone, why shouldn't she be happy about her hol, it's her money.

redandyellowbits · 04/02/2014 20:15

Your holiday sounds amazing happypeeps. Im a big fan of save hard and then treating yourself to a fab holiday once a year. You'll make some fabulous memories. Enjoy!

TheBeautifulVisit · 04/02/2014 20:16

I hope you have a lovely holiday, OP.

HomeEcoGnomist · 04/02/2014 20:18

Happy - when are you going?

Am planning to try and book our (2nd) Neilson holiday tomorrow.
Went last year, it was great and ticked a lot of boxes for us.

Would love to get it under 8k though

AgentProvocateur · 04/02/2014 20:25

Your holiday sounds great. I hope you all have a wonderful time. We have two teens, effectively we are four adults, and it IS expensive for four or five star accommodation (which is my only criteria; I only get four weeks off, and I work longs days with a commute), guaranteed sunshine and activities. To us, as a family, it's worth every penny

Happypeeps11 · 04/02/2014 20:44

If I wanted to boast I would have posted on Facebook where people know me! Home ,last 2 weeks on July. You obviously enjoyed the 1st one.

OP posts:
Happypeeps11 · 04/02/2014 20:45

Home, just quote mums net, booked over the phone.

OP posts:
Happypeeps11 · 04/02/2014 20:48

Angel, we did Florida once and my kids prefer this kind of holiday, believe it or not!

OP posts:
diabolo · 04/02/2014 21:21

I'd rather poke my eyes out than go to Florida with 3 million other people.

diabolo · 04/02/2014 21:28

I've just priced up a holiday where you're going op, same two weeks I already have booked in July in Menorca, in a two room interconnecting suite. Price is just over £7k. With all the activities you get included, seems a decent price for 2 rooms.

In contrast, my 2 weeks in a 3 bed, very private villa with private pool, inc car hire and spending money s/c will cost just over 5k, but with no activities. But I get no near neighbours and can eat dinner wherever I please. And no singing [ grin]
