FLORIDA WITH 2 KIDS AND NO CAR? POSSIBLE?

We're looking at potentially doing a 'quick' stint in Florida towards the end of the year. Have been to Florida and other parts of the US before and always had car as it was much easier to get around. That was before kids though. Also naturally car hire ads to the budget.

My question is... is is possible to spend a week in Florida (probably near all the Disney/Universal Parks), and get around without a car? Anybody done it? Hod did you find it?

When we were in Florida we stayed in Kissimee and I don't seem to remember ever having seen a bus or the like

Taxis were fairly cheap (assuming car seats not an issue). Most hotels/motels have buses going back and forth to the parks. Have done Florida without car before, but not with children. I guess the main determining factor is what acommodation you're goign for. If you're opting for a villa, then I suspect that you'll find that the cost of taxis outweights the car hire cost tbh.

thinking of one of the disney hotels I guess to keep especially dd happy ;) Either that or ignore Disney and stay somewhere with a beach? Then again end of the year might be a bit coolish for beach holiday

If you're staying at a Disney hotel, then no, you won't need a car - the WDW transport system is one the the best reasons to stay onsite IMO.

just had a look at prices though ... 'gulp'

Don't know if this helps, but if you stay at Disney hotel, yes it would be fine.

If you stay at another hotel, they nearly all have free shuttles to the parks but I would honestly think twice before relying on those because you have to book a place on them and they have set times when they run so you may not be able to get to the parks early in the morning or leave after the evening parades. Plus it isn't easy to go back to your hotel for a break or a swim in the middle of the day & then return to the parks (I don't know how old your kids are but they might need a bit of a rest in the middle of the day??).

There are public buses which are cheap (and reliable and clean!) but not very frequent and again you have to depend on their schedules.

We did this two years ago (didn't have kids then!!) & regretted not having a car.

Have a fantastic holiday whatever you decide to do!
