Self catering France in September

Hope someone can help.

We would like to go to France beginning of September, probably La Rochelle area as will be driving. Does anyone know what we can expect from the weather as sites I've searched all seem to differ.

Also, has anyone stayed anywhere they would highly recommend?

Near La Rochelle
Two of us going
Clean
Near some cafes, restaurants, little food shops

The sites and choice is overwhelming so if anyone can recommend a reliable company/website that would be a start. French Connections site looks good.

Thanks

Weather will vary. It will still be lovely and warm, could be sunny and lovely or could rain. Just like here really you can't guarantee it!

Not stayed anywhere I could suggest really. I tend to just go on owners direct and browse properties. I've not had a duff one yet.

Generally the first two weeks in September are lovely. My girls often go back to school in shorts and sandels. We swim outside right through September. In 10 years we have only had 2 years where that has differed.

If there are only 2 of you why not look on the Il de Ré as you can get some really good prices at that time of year. Alternatively try La Tranch sur Mer. Or go inland towards Fontenay le Comte.

I wouldn't recommend a campsite for September as they are mostly closed and feel rather sad. Gîtes and hotels are normal still up and running though.

Owners direct is your best bet. Learn how to do the advance search to put in things that are important to you such as wifi or pool heating (essential in September as the nights start to get a bit cold). Do not limit the number of bedrooms as you will often get a much better deal in September so could afford somewhere a bit more spacious.

We stayed here a few years ago, heated pool plus acres of space for our kids to play and a fab view from the decking of the canal - loved it!

Nearest big town was Fontenay le Comte although we did drive to La Rochelle to.
