What do do in Phuket for a week?

I'm going to Phuket next week with my sister, we will be there for 7 days. We would love to so a boat trip, snorkelling, etc and maybe a half day thai cookery course. Can anyone recommend a particular company for the boat trip or cookery course? Which islands are a must see?

Is there anything else we should do while there?

Our hotel is 15km from the airport. How much should we expect to pay for a taxi?

Thanks v much.

Good timing- the weather should be beautiful and the sea calm.

Phang Nga bay with it's karsts and caves can be canoed around.
There are some great cookery schools on the island.
You could go over to James Bond Island/Koh Phi Phi but it's a busy old day trip. Try and combine it with the canoeing, John Gray's Sea Canoe have a fabulous reputation.
Do you dive? There is good diving off Phuket, otherwise maybe try a taster dive?
There is lots of great food to be had on Phuket. Where are you staying?

Get yourself over to Trip Advisor for specifics like taxi fares.

Thanks TheGonnagle. We're staying at the Marriott Beach Club Resort. I don't dive but would love to try it! Canoeing would be brilliant too.

Did most of my packing today, so excited!

ooh have a lovely time! You can do a cookery class at Kin Dee which is just down the road from the Marriott. It has a good reputation for food and classes- certainly your food bill will be very much smaller if you leave the resort for dinner and go here!
I am very jealous- please have a crab curry for me!

Hi, we stayed there last year and had a fab time. The hotel picked us up for free from the airport so definitely contact them and see if they still do that. They have all sorts of watersports stuff there (non-motorised) so you'll you'll be able to try that out at the hotel. There are various other activities but quite low-key - most people are there for the sun and a rest. Mai Khao is quite far north on the island, brilliant for quick airport transfers but it will take a while to get anywhere by taxi (fairly cheap in Thailand). Have a look online to gauge the sort of places you might like to visit on Phuket; we arrived thinking we'd see lots of things and then ended up going nowhere, just totally relaxing. Restaurants there aren't the cheapest in Thailand but no more expensive than the UK so you shouldn't wince too much!

My husband went diving several times and my eldest children had trial dives in the pool - I think it's easy to get going with diving in Phuket if you're interested.

Have a great time Smile

Went to Kin Dee last night The gonnagle, it was excellent. We ordered the meal for 4. We will definitely go again during the week and I'll be ordering the crab cakes and sea bass, they were amazing! Tomorrow we're hiring a car and driving around the island, will see Phuket town, patong and Big Buddah and a few more places I hope. Weather is amazing, we are loving Thailand so far!

The Hongs by starlight trip from John Gray sea canoe is magical. Highlight of our trip.
