Anyone been to Port de Plaisance (Benodet) in Brittany or done Plymouth to Roscoff crossing?

Hi we're thinking of booking a break at end of summer hols to Port de Plaisance in Brittany. Just wondered if anyone else had been to this campsite/area? Benodet looks like a nice little town, we want somewhere to walk to at night and also close access to a beach. This seems to have both. It also has a fun-looking pool for the kids with lots to do in the indoor pool in case of bad weather. A few people have told me Brittany weather is not good but this is fairly south Brittany so hoping it might be ok.
The best crossing would be Plymouth to Roscoff as the campsite is only 90 mins from Roscoff. However we are a long way from Plymouth and have only ever done Dover-Calais. We would do a night crossing on the way arriving early in the morning and a day one on the way back. I just wondered if anyone had any advice for these - especially keeping the children occupied on a 6 hour daytime crossing! Is it worth booking the reclining seats for this?
We would have to stay in/near Plymouth on the way back as the drive home would be too long after a 6 hour crossing. We usually do Premier Inns but ones in Plymouth seem expensive.
Does anyone know of any a bit more off the beaten track not too far from Plymouth - we will be travelling up to the Midlands.

I don't know the exact campsite you are going to, but I have been to that region of southern Brittany many times, and it is great for a family holiday. Weather and beaches on the south coast are generally better than the north, and there are lots of pretty little towns to explore on daytrips (Quimperle, Pont Aven and so on).

I have done the Plymouth-Roscoff crossing many times, mostly during the day. My top tip for travelling with children would be to book a cabin for the daytime crossing as well - even the 'luxury' ones, which have bunks which convert into sofas, don't cost very much during the day, and it is really good to have your own space to relax, space to play with toys on the floor, your own tv/dvd player, kettle etc (they even provide free fruit & snacks), somewhere safe to leave bags while you go off elsewhere and so on. We only left the cabin to go and have lunch, and to go to one of the children's shows (they have magic shows and so on). It should only cost marginally more than booking reclining seats.

Thanks that's really good advice about the cabin, we'll certainly look into that.

Hi, we went to Brittany from the midlands for years and often those crossings which worked well. We always booked cabins for the night crossing so we were fresh for the drive. One tip, take stuff for breakfast, don't rely on passing somewhere open, you probably won't.

Out last few times we also took night crossing back and had a day in Roscoff which is a fab place with some great places for an end of holiday meal.

We went several times to Benodet which is a really nice town (may have stayed at same site, can't remember but if it was the same one it was very good)

We also went several times to Bel Air at Landudec when the children were older (they have a website)

Weathetwise, we usually had some rain at end of May but usually gloriously sunny in summer

Some very happy hols . If you choose Benodet (town better than Landudec) then if you can catch 14th July fireworks on the beach they were amazing

Meant to say as well, night crossing back saved overnight at Plymouth, crossing a bit more though if I remember right, but not more than hotel.

We can't get an overnight crossing on the way back, there's only a day one but I've looked at brittany Ferries website and it will only cost us £15 more to get a cabin than 4 seats so we'll definitely do that.
The company we're hoping to book with gives us 20% of the ferry which is good - it is so expensive. At the moment the ferry is working out more than the holiday!
