I need help please re south Bristol/NE Somerset/west Wilts...

Am travelling from west Wilts to south Bristol to take children to visit greatgrandmother in a small hot room. (Very small, unbreathably hot which has an adverse effect on dc's behaviour.) What can we do/where can we go to run off energy and restore sanity? Not central Bristol (new driver = city-phobic!) and not too far off route.
Any ideas gratefully accepted!

Noah's ark near Nailsea is good for ids, will try and do a link.

Noah's ark .

Thanks, that looks really good. My ds1 has just leaned over my shoulder and said, "Wow, that's even better than Ikea!". Odd lad!
Not sure we'll manage it today, think we'd need a whole day for it really, but will definitely bear it in mind.

Anybody else?

I would pop up to the Downs and let them have a run, or park up by the Suspension Bridge, go the the Observatory then for a walk over the Bridge. Or on the other side there is Ashton Court where you can do mini golf (well you used to be able to ).

TooTicky · 28/07/2006 11:22

That's a good idea, Kittypickle, and free! Now, can I work out how to avoid the busy, scary roads...

Or Ashton Court?

WestCountryLass · 29/07/2006 21:54

Also, depending on where you are in South Bristol, there is the sand park at Hengrove (Hngrove Leisure Park)?

If you do the Suspension Bridge walk, if you walk into Clifton Village via The Mall, there is a Bar Chocolat at the end of the road that does delicious cakes and icecreams.

Windmill Hill city farm is good. Where in S Bristol? It's free and there's a decent cafe and sweet ducks and stuff.

WideWebWitch · 29/07/2006 22:17

Tell me where in S Bristol and I'll tell you whether it's walkable to the city farm. Or there's Victoria Park, which is big and has swings and stuff and plenty of space to play football/run around. It's in S Bristol.

TooTicky · 29/07/2006 22:29

Ooh, I'd forgotten about the city farm - used to go there lots when we lived in Bristol.
We did Bristol today, and we went to Ashton Court, and had a good time despite the rain, and have only just got home thanks to me taking a wrong turning and accidentally visiting Midsomer Norton and Frome...
Hengrove Park makes me nervous - too close to where I went to school! Mind you, my grandmother is in Hengrove at the moment, even closer to my old school!

Oh sorry, I didn't realise it was after the event tooticky! Glad it was ok.

TooTicky · 29/07/2006 22:35

Always grateful for new ideas, will be visiting regularly.

if you're able to go South of Bristol.... Chew Magna Lake is a good place to go for a runaround and picnic. tried to find a link but it was unavailable.

tortoiseshell · 29/07/2006 23:23

I know it's a bit late, but Horse World in Whitchurch is fantastic - we went for the first time, and dd loved it. You can go into the stalls freely and groom the horses, and it's a horse rescue centre rather than a 'zoo' type place!

TooTicky · 30/07/2006 21:06

Thanks Tommy and tortoiseshell. I've been meaning to go to Chew Magna for years. We used to visit Horseworld when we were living in Bristol - thanks for reminding me.

Would you be worried in case it was a bit rough (Hengrove Park)? Cos they have security and CCTV and it is actualkly very civilised!
