Is baggage allowance shared?

E.g. if we have 15kg allowance each can we take one 20kg bag and one 10kg bag between us?

You need to check what the max weight of each bag is allowed to be, and your airline's rules.
The more expensaive the airline, the more likely you'll be able to do it - ie unlikely with EJ etc.

princessalbert · 13/01/2014 20:28

Yes, some airlines will let you split it , others won't.

However there is a limit on the total weight of one piece of luggage - (30kg?)

check first!

I have a feeling that Ryanair (whose weight limit is 15kg) won't let you 'share,' but EJ (20kg) will. But check on their website.

Jet2 won't let you

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 14/01/2014 12:09

BA wont let you share either but others will. Best check with the airline.

ilovepowerhoop · 14/01/2014 12:12

on our first choice holidays we could share the allowance but no one bag was allowed to be over 23kg

specialsubject · 14/01/2014 12:48

top tip - if you can't lift the bag easily be sure you will piss off the baggage handlers, and it will be very roughly treated.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 14/01/2014 13:44

Sorry Knottingley, if you are referring to Ryanair here they will not permit you to do this. It will have to be two bags of 15kg.

Bunbaker · 15/01/2014 16:58

"Jet2 won't let you"

But at a generous 22k allowance you wouldn't want to have a heavier case anyway.

nbee84 · 18/01/2014 17:49

From the ryanair website;

"Customers included in the same flight reservation can pool or share their purchased baggage allowances when checking in together.

For example: 2 friends travelling on the same booking have purchased two 15kg checked bags, one customer can check in a bag weighing 17kg and the other 13kg as long as the total paid checked baggage allowance is not exceeded."

Ryanair don't let you.

I remember at an airport on the way home me and dd had one bag between us even though she was 6yo and had her own seat/ticket. The bag was 2kg over and they wouldn't accept that it was one bag for 2 people. I had to shove my dirty laundry in dh's friend's bag. I was slightly mortified ramming bras, etc in this bloke's bag!

clam · 18/01/2014 18:06

Ah, but I think that's slightly different, viva. You were wanting to use your dd's allowance, even though she didn't actually have a bag. And therefore you presumably hadn't paid the £20 or whatever it is for that bag, so your 2kg extra was treated as excess baggage.

VivaLeBeaver · 18/01/2014 18:16

I seem to remember it was back in the day before you paid for luggage seperatly with Ryanair, so you got baggage allowance included with your ticket. Might be wrong though.
