Do you really need vaccinations for the Caribbean?

and would a 2 year old and a 4 year old need them? Really? If you are staying in a resort and not venturing anywhere else? Or drinking tap water.

We never did have any vaccinations when we went to St.Lucia or Antigua. And I was pg in St.Lucia.

MASTA is good for this. You can input your itinerary and it comes up with the recommendations.

Been there 7 times over the last few years - different part each time. Never even considered it tbh.

Nope . Dd had been to Barbados , st lucia, Antigua and is unvaccinated

eurochick · 11/01/2014 14:40

Who suggested you did?

insomniarules · 11/01/2014 21:45

It suggested vaccinations in a brochure, maybe Trailfinders? I'm not sure without checking.
Guess we wil risk it!
Next question will be... Where to go in March with 2/4 yr olds ...

you shouldn't need anything beyond the stuff everyone should have: typhoid, diphtheria, polio, MMR etc.

thing to watch for is dengue - no vaccine for that. So 24/7 insect repellent with lots of DEET for everyone, cover up morning and evening etc. Although the dengue mosquito bites at any time.

Whereabouts in the Caribbean? We've been to Barbados several times and have never had any nor have we been advised to!

Brochures often carry a standard message that it is up to the traveller to find out about and arrange their immunisations, and is included for every destination as a matter of routine.

It's probably to do with a legal liability?
