Any particular beaches or attractions that must be visited?

Have already booked Rick Stein's

Whereabouts in Cornwall? I presume North Coast if you're going to Padstow.

Gobbledigook · 26/07/2006 11:11

it's here not far from south coast - Fowey and Polperro. Apparently it's about 30-40 mins drive to Rick Stein's up in Padstow but it's worth it!

St Ives is a lovely town full of character and lovely shops. If you like gardens the Lost Gardens of Heligan are beautiful and more intersting than your average open garden. The Eden project is amazing too. And you'll love the beaches. Have a great time.

Fowey is a lovely place. We've sent the last 2 holidays there. That's worth a visit - take a ferry trip while you are there over to Polruan or along the river.

Look out for car parking in st Ives though - it's always heaving!!
Polperro is really pretty. I'm not an expert on that side of Cornwall - we usually go on the North coast

Wow - the cottages look great !!

gobblidigook, did you book it last year? everytime I look at their site they are fully booked up for about 2 years! It looks amazing, have you been before?

Hope you enjoy your holiday. I'd recommend Tintagel on the north coast. It's a bit further towards bude than Padstow is but easily within striking distance for you. Don't be put off by the v. touristy village full of shops selling tat, but enjoy the great, albeit steep, walk down a lane and up the cliff to see the ruined castle. Amazing views at the top. You often see seals swimming below you as you climb. I know you have 3 boys, but I don't know how old the youngest is. You;d need a back pack.

PS Just being nosy here - we haven't been to the yummy Seafood Restaurant since ds3 was born because I didn't/don't think they take children under 3. Have they relaxed that rule, or are you going sans enfants ?

If you do go to St Ives (which I love) then a good idea is to get the Park and Ride in from Hayle. There is a car park and then it is the bog standard train but it is a lovely run along the cliff/sea front, lands you centrally in St Ives and probably earns some brownie points with 3 DS's!

Oh thanks everyone!

Bosscat - yes we booked it in June 2005!! We have already booked for June half term week 2007. We have never been before but it's been recommended on MN, it looks great on the website and the fact that it's always so booked tells me it's worth going to! The fact that it has the indoor pool, small soft play, outdoor play and animal feeding means that even if you didn't go out anywhere one day, there is plenty to do. The pool opens early and late so great if the kids are up at the crack of dawn or if you need to tire them out before bed

Wanderingstar - we are going without children. We are going with my SIL, her dh, two dds, FIl and MIL (they are all in a different cottage to us - thank the Lord!) so FIL and MIL are babysitting while we go! Huzzah!
