Mine really love it. Loads of space to run around. Indoor educational area has lots of things they can touch - tho these are aimed at school age kids. Good walks. Trains. really easy to spend whole day. There are money off vouchers in leaflet called national forest attractions guide avaliable from tourist board. Have only been in term time. take a picnic - food's crap and expensive

WigWamBam · 24/07/2006 18:19

We've been going since dd was 4, she loves it. As horace says, the indoor areas are aimed more at older kids but dd still gets plenty out of them. Outside there's walks, sculptures, areas where you can make your own sculptures from wood and rocks, musical instruments in the woods, made from wood, pony and trap rides (extra cost though), and every hour there's a show at Waterside which dd pretends she's too old for but which she always ends up wanting to watch! It's pretty painful for the adult audience but the children enjoy it. There's less to do at Waterside, but there's a really nice playground by the Waterside train station.

The site is split into two, but it only takes a few minutes to walk between one side and the other, or you can get the little train that runs every few minutes.

Would agree that the food is expensive and crap - although they do a decent cup of tea in the cafe by the indoor Discovery centre.

Thanks you too, will put that on our list then, and will definatly take a picnic.

just to add the flip side - I can't bare the place, was I bored - yes completely, nothing to do other than build things out of logs and go on walks, they had a bouncy slide, but you had to pay for that, they had a play area which you also had to pay for, food expensive, rotten day. Much prefer to go to Twycross Zoo - mine were 5 & 7 when we went.

nutcracker · 24/07/2006 18:24

Oh really Golds, hmmmm, well I suppose we can give it a go and see what we think. At least it will be something to do.

How long would twycross zoo take from Brum, anyone know ?

TooTicky · 24/07/2006 18:26

Where is this place? It sounds interesting.

WigWamBam · 24/07/2006 18:27

Twycross takes us about 40 minutes in the car, nutty.

golds · 24/07/2006 18:27

yes but I am a bit of a miserable old cow Twycross is about 10 mins away from conkers, can't recall how long it took us

WigWamBam · 24/07/2006 18:29

Conkers is at Moira, near Ashby de la Zouch, Ticky. Website is here .

nutcracker · 24/07/2006 18:31

You know at Twycross, once you've paid to get in is the rest free ? Do you pay extra for the rides for example ?

OP posts:
TooTicky · 24/07/2006 18:34

Ooh, a bit far for us. thanks anyway.

bonkerz · 24/07/2006 18:35

at twycross all the animals are freee but they have added a new funfair area which you have to pay for but there is a lovely play area.

WigWamBam · 24/07/2006 18:37

The funfair at Twycross is expensive - tickets for the rides are £1.50 each and some rides need two tickets. The playground area is free.

nutcracker · 24/07/2006 18:39

Oh I hate it when they have rides too cos I hate taking them on a day out and then saying no to the rides.

Just priced up Warwick Castle - £57 for 2 adults and 2 kids

OP posts:
WigWamBam · 24/07/2006 18:43

Warwick Castle is a real rip-off. What about Kenilworth - it's in ruins but I think it's the more interesting of the two, and dd loves it there. Much cheaper as well.

nutcracker · 24/07/2006 18:45

Oh will check out Kenilworth, thanks Wigwam.
