Going on holiday in 2 weeks to St Leonards. Any good days out for 5yr old girls. We have to take a 3 month baby too. Indoors & out needed (don't trust the weather). Will travel up to 1hr for a whole day activity, 30mins or so for 1/2 a day.

Where is the best beach?

We plan to go to Brighton for the day (I think DP is on the turn?!?). Is there anything there to do(1/2 day perhaps).

Haven't got much time, but I live in Eastbourne! My DD's are a bit younger than yours, so I'll ask some friends with older children if they've got any more ideas, but here are a few quick suggestions .......

Bentley Wildfowl and Motor Musuem - Great playpark, cars, wildfowl (obviously), massive picnicing space, miniature railway - well worth the visit!!

Druzillas Zoo (just outside Eastbourne) - Best small Zoo in the country, I belive!! A GREAT day out - bit pricey, but worth it - lots of animals (monkeys, amphibians etc etc), brilliant play areas, big soft play, lots of place to eat, train ride etc etc FAB!

There's a Sealife Centre in Brighton - very good, again, pricey (unless you or your hubby - or someone you know works for the emergency services (police, ambulance etc) cos you can get cut price tickets with a "999 Priority Badge"!!)

Erm, erm, erm .....

Loads of great beaches around - bit stoney though, I'm afraid, check tide times for sand!! Eastbourne and Brighton are both nice, but busy!! For quiet, picturesque type beaches with sand try Cooden nr Bexhill - GORGEOUS!!

Chichester is worth a look.

Lots of theatres (children shows in abundance this time of years, just had The Wiggles in Brighton and Fimbles in Eastbourne!) and soft play (Eastbourne, Halisham, Lewes, Brighton) around.

Eastbourne Miniature Steam Railway is lovely.

Lots of farms, Middle Farm and Blackberry Farm nr Eastbourne, we've got Severn Sisters Sheep Farm is worth a look as is the Ashdown Forest Llama Farm and Ashdown Forest is where Winnie the Pooh was invented is fab (you can go to "Pooh Bridge" and play "Pooh Sticks"!!).

That's just off the top of my head!! You have choosen a great place for a holiday!!

I'll be back again when I've thought of more ........

Wow long post considering you didn't have much time - but well appreciated. Will check out some of the places online in the next couple of weeks before we go. Sounds like we should come for a fortnight!!!

Thanks

Touch typing - very useful when you've got children!

Yes, there's loads to do around here - hope you have a fab time!

Just found out Drusillas & Sea life take Tesco Days out vouchers - so 1/4 of price & well worth oit by the look of it. Off to order them now. Really like the sound of the Pooh corner too.

Definately go to Drusillas - my DS (2) loved it.

spidermama · 25/07/2006 15:26

Drusillas is good but it's equally good just to hang around on the beach. There's a playground area with a paddling pool on the seafront and loads of cafes, ice cream stuff, the pier and fabulous atmosphere.

Drusillas is great but very expensive. Just before Drusillas is Middle Farm which is quite nice and has a big impressive farm shop if you like that sort of thing.

Wander around the north laine. loads of unique shops and good child freindly cafes. A real Brighton experience.

Many thanks - had a fab holiday. We happened to be there the week of the Hastings Old town festival so that gave us loads of extras to do. We did get to Brighton though & made sure we got to Drusillas. We had a fab day there despite the A27 being closed becasue of an accident, sitting in Bird c* at lunchtime & being absolutely shattered from a late night (kids went on and on though). We live near quite a major zoo so would probably not have visited if I had not checked it out beforehand - but Drusillas is so much more than a zoo. A must for anyone checking out this thread in the future. Clean, novel activities (the zoolympics certificates beat us home!!!) and so many extra things for all ages. It did seem expensive - but having visited is probably fairly priced. If you take a picnic you needn't spend anything else all day (Tesco days out vouchers are valid here too).

The worst days were the ones DP spotted leaflets for (but don't tell him that!). We want to come back again in the future as there were some things we just didn't get time for but wanted to do.

Thanks guys,
