Summer holiday in Italy with kids - any suggestions?

Hey,
I'd love to take the kids to Italy - they love pizza and pasta, I love icecream, and have really loved time there when I've been with work.

So, 2 adults, a 5 yr old, and a 3 year old, May half term or summer holidays.

Need 2 rooms. Thinking holiday village or similar, so things to do, but can get out. Not thought through food yet!

Any suggestions - or talk me out of Italy!

Can't talk you out of it 'cos I love it. Lake Garda is perfecto for families, there are some fantastic campsites around the lake. Bella Italia is one of them.

go to viareggio (near Pisa) or to Jesolo (near venice)
brilliant beaches, fabulous culture.. Do it!!

never, snap! We also went to Camaiore last year. Very nice, although paying for the beach access took a bit of getting used to.

We wen to Tuscany last summer and we loved it, wonderful food, amazing scenery and so much to see. We would love to go back again.

OK, so Italy a good plan.
Did you all camp? I'm after a bed. So self catering? Holiday village? What did you go for??

Second Lake Garda! We stayed in Riva. Truly amazing.

Lake Garda. We stayed at The Poiano Hotel in Garda. They have apartments too. I booked it direct with a car and SleazyJet flights.

It was the best family holiday we've ever had.

Clayhead · 02/01/2014 16:56

We went for Eurocamp - easy access to the pool, loads of gelato and pizza!

Are there any none driving options?

MiconiumHappens · 02/01/2014 17:35

Have a google for marina de venizia it's a fantastic campsite with static caravans near Venice. Had our best ever holiday there and will definitely be returning we went with Al Fresco holidays but euro camp etc are all there.

Have heard great things about Villa Pia in Tuscany. They do 'strongly recommend' you hire a car tho.

The Forte village on Sardinia is supposed to be lovely, but £££.

To do Garda, you could get a train to Desenzano at the south of the island - from Brescia and possibly Verona as well - and then take a bus or boat to another resort (Desenzano nice but nothing special).

Sorrento/Amalfi coast must be doable by public transport from Naples airport I would have thought.

Sorry me again. There is also a station at Peschiera del Garda - line runs from Milan to Venice, so day trip options if you stay at a resort nearby.

makemineapinot · 03/01/2014 00:00

Oh go here it's perfect!

Thisisaghostlyeuphemism · 03/01/2014 18:02

Ooh we're going to marina Venezia in June- great to hear its lovely!

We went to eurocamp on the outskirts of Rome last year- camp 'fabulous!' - it was great.

MiconiumHappens · 04/01/2014 19:04

It's truly fantastic the kids still shout Venice! When the see a gondola Smile very fond memories and the kids 5, 3 & 10 would go year in year out. Enjoy.

Very nice pizza.

Silvi Marina or Montesilvano. On the beach, fly to Pescara, HB or FB. V few English, sun bed and brolly come with the room. Or Eurocamp have places on Italian Lakes/coast, either tent or caravan.
