Have no idea what to do! - Venice

DH has booked us a last minute trip to Venice in Jan. it's only for 2 days but hopefully should be amazing! I don't really know anything about the city and have been frantically googling as, with our short time there, don't want to waste too much time wandering aimlessly (although I know that's often the fun part of city breaks!)

Can anyone recommend any 'must see' places, things to do or, what I'm really struggling with, places to eat?

Take the vaporetto line #2 down the grand can all too see the palaces, then st mark's sqaare / bridge of sighs. There's a lovely Bellini altarpiece v near, think it's s zaaccharia. I'd have a hideously expensive cocktail at Florian on piazza s.Marco. another good route is round the frari / scuole do s Rocco / Rialto bridge. Boat to s Giorgio maggiore and CLI,mb the tower for the view over thee city.

Sights of St Marks Square, but don't eat or drink there as huge rip-off. Ask your hotel for a good restaurant you can walk to - if you are willing to walk 10-15 min inland then there are fantastic tourist-free restaurants.
So palace tour, look inside St Marks, up the Campanile if you like views, an

Islands of Murano for the wonderful glass making - watch demos, there's a glass museum, loads to buy cheaper than other shops. Burano has multicoloured houses and a lace museum (not that interesting IMO).

Argh, phone playing up. And the Museo Correr round St Marks, which among other stuff has the Fra Mauro map of 1459 showing the New World, which Columbus knew about. You have to go to the end room and ask and they'll go unscreen it for you.

Wander past a mask shop, eat ice cream and fish dishes, and enjoy!

Just walking around is amazing. See the Rialto Bridge, the Grand Canal, St Mark's Square.

Oh venice is lovely! We went last month, do st marks square (and if you like museums etc, go inside it and the museo correr), see the attached bridge of sighs (walk over it if u do the inside palace tour). Also the Rialto bridge is a must and a vaporetto trip is a must!!! It's also lovely just to wander about and see all the fab shops Smile have a lovely time!!

if you have time, a boat trip to Murano and the very photogenic Burano are also good.

getting lost is a given - look on the walls and there will be a sign somewhere directing you to St Marks Square.

BTW it will be cold and damp, but still fantastic. Hope to afford to go back one day!
