The Big Chill 2006

Is anyone going to the Big Chill ? Has anyone been before ? I want to arrange to meet friends, but the official website is a bit short on information. Has anyone any experience they'd like to share ? e.g.

Is it worth camping in the family field ?
What to take ? (kids range between 6 months and 9yrs)
How far is it from the car park from the campsite ?

Thanks

I have heard other MN'ers talking about this. Worth posting on the Camping thread?

I went once.

Here's the best piece of advice I can give based on that. Definitely camp in the family bit because then you are amongst people who are also unable to attend the late night performances because they also have to be at the campsite while their kids sleep and they also get up early because the kids do.

Don't camp anywhere near the toilets. This is what did it for us. I remember lying in my sleeping bag, with two young kids in the tent and heavily pg with no. 3 liostening to the sound of the toilet doors banging all night and being very close to tears for much of the time.

The following morning we packed up and the kids were shouting, much to my embarrassment, 'Will there be a TV in the HOTEL mum?' while the other campers looked on with utter distain.

Apart from that, it was great. Have a good time.

Take foam ear plugs. They may well save the experience for you.
(available at chemists or much more cheaply to bulk buy on ebay).

Ah - thanks. I'll try again on camping.

Must be a dilemma whether to camp near or far from the toilets if you're heavily pregnant !

Take a potty or a camping lavvy. You're much better off at least weeing in the potty if nothing else. You want to involed yourself as little as possibly with the chemical toilets. They're seriously nasty and there's no way of putting a good spin on that part of the festival.

However, on a brighter note, it's well worth your while. I love these festies. Get yourself comfy with an inflatable bed (and a pump to pump it up - or borrow someones pump) because the ground might be hard with all the good weather we've been having and that's no fun when you're pregnant.

Get yourself as comfy as poss and you'll have agreat time. I'm going to the Big Green myself. Can't wait.

Don't camp downhill from toilets, or in front of them as the queues can get long and loud. Avoid trees fences and hedges as people tend to pee in them too. Don't camp at the path junctions nearest to the entrances as the tents there can get a bit trampled in the dark.

Take plenty babywipes (camp shower) and loo roll in a poly bag.
