Sorry posted this under capming by accident. No offence to the campers out there, but I was thinking more posh bed and nice nosh

Want to go away for a weekend with DH and DS and someone mentioned North Norfolk being nice. Would like:
beach
nice place to stay
nice places to eat
don't need to get in the car to go everywhere (so can have a beer wioth lunch

and, call me a snob but my idea of nice definitely does not involve amusements/ theme parks/ kiss me quick hats!!

Any advice??

Not sure if it's North but Wells is very nice. Also Sheringham and Hunstanton. Only trouble is most places with a beach will have the inevitable arcades etc.

There is a lovely beach at Holkham (The Queen is know to frequent the area!). You can walk to the beach from This Hotel which is meant to be lovely, I have never stayed in the hotel but have been at a barbeque there. Very nice food, hotel is quaint. HTH

North Norfolk's probably ideal for you. I've been to Blakeney, very small, not commercialised, good if you're into 'country' stuff like walking, bird watching etc You can also get boat trips out to see the seal colonies on Blakeney point. Definately no arcades or anything.

I believe there are loads of really nice foodie places along that stretch of coast to Cley/Stiffkey but i've never to any. I have been to The Blakeney Hotel and it was lovely (but this was pre dd, not sure how child friendly it is) very genteel and excellent food.

north norfolk lovely! avoid hunstanton if you dont like arcades etc. wells, sheringham, brancaster area lovely... fab beaches... you will need a car to get to the best ones... its tourist season now thogh so you'll need to book accommodation rather than waiting till you get there, theres loads of rental cottages.... lots of nice local pubs.... have fun!

Melrose,

You would love North Norfolk.

I have stayed at the Victoria before (just at the end of the drive leading to Holkam beach) and also at the Hoste Arms in a nearby village called Burnham Market.

Both are lovely - four poster beds available, and great food!

You can walk to the beach from the Victoria (although it is a bit of a walk) - but not from the Hoste. However, Burnham Market is very quaint with lots of little boutique shops so enough to keep you entertained for a day if you want to have a slightly liquid lunch!

You have made me jealous thinking about it...

Keep away from the bigger towns (I even find Wells too commercialised although others love it). Best places (imo) are Holkham, Cley, Holt, Burnham Market, Mundesley and Blakeney.

The beach at Holkham is beautiful - it will take you at least 20-30 mins to walk to the shore from the carpark but it is always worth it. Do not stop once you have come out of the pine trees but continue walking over the sand dunes and don't stop. Take a wind break as it is very open and beautiful. And lots of food as you won't want to be walking back to the car. Kite always popular as well.
