Help..bambozzled with such a choice of restaurants..will set the scene...

Going to edinburgh sheraton with friend to stay over and use the spa. Can't wait. Much needed break. Looking for a nice place to eat not mega bucks but relaxing..brasserie type of place or italian..or somewhere just amazingly good that we just must go to!!

bumping this.

i live in edinburgh, but i don't eat out here much - too expensive, haven't really had good food, and no babysitter.

I'd recommend centotre (www.centotre.co.uk/), lovely modern italian food, not too pricey, stylish, and at the right end of town for you... I've been a lot with girlfriends in the evening and had a fab time. Also been in the day with dh and dd, and had gorgeous lunches and brunches... great too if you'd like a glass of prosecco in the afternoon sitting outside people-watching.
I could go on and list loads of places, but I'd just be letting you in on how obsessed I am about food...

The Apartment in Bruntsfield has lovely food and it is at your end of town. Valvonna and Corolla is a great place for lunch or coffee but you have to queue or their new Italian restaurant is called Vin Caffe which is just across from Harvey Nicks (very girly). I had a brilliant meal there recently but you can go in for coffee, drinks or breakfast. they have a website.

i had an amazing meal in Cafe Marlayne which is on fishmarket close of the high street. the decor is abit odd but really good food and it is in the old town so you will get lots of atmosphere.

My dh and I went to a really fab place called First Coast on Dalry Road. We run a restaurant ourselves and this was very much our sort of thing, brasserie, informal, simple, relaxed but great food.

Lilliput · 18/07/2006 19:17

Oh, and also really great value!

Yes, I'd go for Centotre too. Blue Bar Cafe above the Traverse also rather good, and v.v. close to you. The Apartment was closed for refurbishment recently, haven't noticed if it's reopened. It's quite good but nowhere near as good as Centotre IMHO.

i'll have to try this Centotre. off to think of a good excuse to go (10years since i got together with dh good enough?)

I forgot! I had lunch w/my mum at Britannia Spice and it was heavenly!!! If you like curry, of course.
