Trying to find a break for us plus 2 teens and a dog, that's a little bit luxurious.

Hi,

I'd like to take my family on a surprise break for a couple of nights from Jan 1st. I want an hotel, preferably with garden rooms, so that we can be a bit self contained, somewhere picturesque, with lovely food and roaring fires. A pool would be a definite advantage too.

DH works over Christmas and I'm back at school on Jan 7th. We wanted to ski, but all the scheduled departures don't fit with our dates and I don't want to faff, just have a really chilled out break.

Can anyone recommend somewhere lovely?

Try searching on Mr and Mrs Smith website- they show pet friendly boutique hotels.

Have you thought about going yo Aviemore. The scenery is lovely and you are close to the Cairngorms national park and skiing at the Lecht / Glenshee etc.

Thanks both Smile.

We couldn't ski if we were taking the dog, and as I only want to go for a couple of days now, I'd like to take her and do some nice walks.

I will check that website out!

if you want to stay somewhere from the 1st then you might find that a bit tricky as most people will be staying over New Year. just worth checking on a number of different dates iyswim. have a look at the pet friendly websites like petswelcome, dogsinvited, petfriendlyplaces etc. they have age limits for dogs usually (older than a year) but if you start with them you might find something.

I've just realised that too mummy... we can go as late as Jan 4th if we're only doing 2 nights.

DH and me stayed at a nice place in Helmsley during the summer, but I don't think children are encouraged.

On the Mr & Mrs Smith website, they have family friendly places, but the booking system doesn't have anywhere to add them.

The garden room thing is quite important because of the dog and the children. DD is 15 with SN and DS is 13. All three are house trained Wink.

Lake District every time for me. The Scafell HotelRosthwaite is lovely

I'll have a look. We're quite close to the Lakes, so it's a hassle free destination for us. Thanks rwepi.

It doesn't look like they accept dogs...

I'm just looking on the Sawdays website... it's all looking very promising! Grin
