Cornwall holiday destinations - any recommendations?

I am hoping to plan a family holiday to Cornwall for a week in May. Has anyone got anywhere they would recommend. Two adults and two boys aged 3 and 1 (both in cots!) so two bedrooms at least and preferably not too far from the sea and the Eden project - Any ideas gratefully received.

We stayed at the Carlyon bay with all the kids, a little formal but quite nice. There is a playroom The rooms are good sizes and they do cots. There is an indoor & outdoor swimming pool and lovely food. The restaurant is lounge suit with tie in the evening. It is up the road from the Eden project and right on the sea with lovely views.

A couple of years ago (when ds was 2) we had a lovely short break in Cornwall staying B&B on a working farm, arranged via Cornish Farm Holidays website. It was very cheap, clean and relaxed. We were out most days driving to Eden Project etc so it suited us fine.

Hughsie, we did cornwall when little DS a 1.5 and again when he was about 2.5 and DS1 & DD 11 and 12 the second time and we stayed at Bedruthan Steps . I could not recommend anywhere higher for kids of the age of yours. They have these great rooms that have a kind of divider so you get a little bit of privacy but the kids are still in with you and enough space to spread out all the too although a little cramped we managed with all of us in the one room the first time. The 2nd time we took one of there apartments which was really decadent as we had 3 bedroom 1 bathroom 1 shower room and lounge/dinning rooml. The facilities are amazing they have everything and i mean everything....
A kids dining room for the little ones with clean sterilsed bottles, beakers, kids plates and cutlery you literally do not need to take all that with you. If you have special dietary requirements they will assist, we needed rice milk for baby.
They have kids clubs for all ages, a jungle gym indoor and outdoor pools and numerous outdoor play areas, sand pits and little diggers for the kids. Its a short walk to the beach but a beautiful setting.
OMG i sound like im a promotion for the owners.
2 other best things are really really good baby listening service at night and a lovely adult only restaurant overlooking the bay to eat sumptuos food in whilst relaxed that someone will come get you if your kids let out a squeak.

Down sides -- not the most beautiful building or plushest decorations but more than adequate.

We would so go back but our older ones have outgrown it somewhat. Maybe we will dump the older ones and go back anyway.

Let us know what you decide to do and how you get on.

What sort of price range are you talking? What sort of accommodation preferred?

donnie · 09/03/2004 15:10

agree with stace, we spent 10 dys at Bedruthan steps last June and it was fantastic. You can walk down to the huge clean beach and they have so many facilities, baby listening, children's teas included in the price etc. But it isn't cheap! worth it though, and the food is very good.

Agree that Bedruthan is fabulous and they say it's had a big refurbishment too!

Personally I would recommend a farm holiday which is cheaper than Bedruthan steps (only becasue I couldn't afford to stay in a nice hotel) I went to Tredethick farm a couple of years ago with a 3 yr old and a one yr old. Your getto bottle feed lambs etc (it was amazing) and it's about 15 mins from Eden. Also I have heard The olde House is good too, never been mind you. It depends what sort of holiday you want and can afford

Well we're on the budget end of the spectrum I'm afraid. We're going to the St Ives Bay Caravan Park in June. Was looking at a cottage but when we asked DS (aged 3) which he would prefer he was very definite about a caravan. And six weeks after the birth of his sibling we decided he deserved it. It will be an OK drive to the Eden project - went there two years ago and definitely intend to revisit. Also right onto beach and St Ives bay has lovely beaches. Can catch train into St Ives to avoid nightmare parking. So we're pretty well suited.

Last year, we stayed in a cottage in Padstow with this company: Harbour holidays . We stayed at 7 Barrys Lane which was in the middle of Padstow - two bedrooms, newly decorated so really nice. It did have stairs but the living room and kitchen were upstairs - so you might want to take/hire a stairgate. It was about £450 in high season, not sure how much it would be in May though. Padstow is lovely, you can walk to the sea and it is not too far to the Eden Project.

We are also planning to go to Cornwall this summer, but I am worried about the long drive. Any ideas for stops on the way or what did others do? (We live in London.....)
Does anyone know if Sands resort is any good?

The drive from London is very long and tiring. We stopped for lunch at Cheddar Gorge which was good.

stace · 10/03/2004 13:25

we drove from london both times and just timed it to break midway for lunch each time, i didnt find it too bad and niether did the kids.

Crunchie · 10/03/2004 20:34
