Any recommendations for a weekend away without the kids next weekend?

Hi

I've persuaded dp to treat me to a weekend away without the kids next weekend as a birthday treat! Can anyone recommend somewhere nice where they have stayed in the North of England (Yorks/Lancs/Lincs/Derbys) preferably with leisure facilities? I can't wait to go!

Although Preston might not be your idea of a romantic night away look up the Preston Marriot which used to be Broughton Park......it really is beautiful and there is a pool and a state of the art gym etc etc

Where do you live?

Hi Collision - I live in Rotherham but commute to Rochdale to pick the children up from the ex. on a Sunday so we'd be travelling across to Lancs sometime during the weekend. I did see an ad. in the Mail yesterday for Hilton breaks including the one in Blackpool but that may be busy and impersonal.

Collision - special rate on the Marriott web-site for Preston - 39 pounds each pn for b & b including shopping voucher for Trafford Centre. Not bad! (Would dp appreciate a shopping voucher on a dirty weekend? )

HI dottee
Look on laterooms.com and see what you can find. I think its hard to beat York or Harrogate for a romantic weekend! Both are nice because if you are in a city centre hotel you can just wonder out for a while and then go back for afternoon tea and a 'siesta'!!!

Isn't there a spa sort of thing in Harrogate, where you could get pampered for an hour or two before you head out for a night out? Thought I heard that somewhere.

what about manchester or leeds? 42 The Calls in Leeds is gorgeous and The Rossetti in Manchester. Neither have leisure facilities but are lovely hotels. Or how about this spa hotel outside of leeds thorpe park

www.theacademy.co.uk/spa/

This spa is in Harrogate, was Day Spa of the Year - looks really lovely, so you could combine that with a visit Hotel du Vin. It is open to non-members.

The Hotel du Vin do have really great rooms, lovely food and a brilliant wine list.

Having said all that though, I think I would book a Travel Lodge, take a case of bubbly, order a takeaway and not come out of the room for 2 days!!!!!!! A weekend without the kids sounds bliss!!!! Have you decided yet?

I'd rather stay at home than in a travel lodge!!!!
Aren't they the ones in motorway service stations?

To update - just booked a room at Cranage Hall in Holmes Chapel for this weekend via laterooms.com. How's this: 4* en suite b and b in a lovely country hotel in the Cheshire countryside - full leisure facs (for over 18's)etc. for fifty quid a room! (s/b 140 pounds) Yes, yes, yes!
