Romantic *grown up* few days in Paris!

My dh is leaving his work in a couple of weeks and I just spoke to his (work) partner who said they are going to surprise him at his leaving do with a gift of a few days in Paris for the two of us (my parents are alrady looking after the kids for a few days in the summer so we can go then). I am totally gobsmacked as it is a very very generous gift, staff and patients alike have contributed to it (hes a GP) and it is just about the best thing we could be given, we love travelling and it will be nice to be just the two of us.
I have to book it so it can be given (which is why I am in on the surprise). I've been to Paris a few times but always donr it in real student slumming it mode, and this time we can afford to stay somewhere nice. Does anyone have any recommendations of tasteful/posh/unique places to stay in Paris? I have a fair idea of what to do when we are there, but it would be nice to stay in some interesting hotel/apartment for the days we will be there.
thanks

Can't really recommend any hotels that meet your cireria, but we love Paris too. Remeber to get your "Carte Musee" so that you can both save money getting into all the museums and (and more importantly) jump the queues!

We often have lunch in Cafe Panis, just over the bridge from Notre Dame (at the end of BOuelvard St Michel) and does good club sandwiches and French Onion soup, plus has great seats for sitting and relaxing in while the world goes by.

From Mumsnet, I got the recommendation to visit the Sainte Chapelle (within the Palais de Justice) - and that we well worth the recommendation.

Is your dh going to be a GP in Glasgow?

I'd forgotten about the Carte Musee - thanks!
Thanks for the tips, its nice to know good places for lunch! (food being one of the main attractions in France!)

My dh is going to be a locum GP in Glasgow - we are both going to Bible college and he will locum to support us through it. I'm sure I've talked to you about this on another thread but cant now find it - must have as I didnt mention Glasgow here!!

I'm not sure you'd mentioned the locum GP bit (or if you did, I don't remember seeing it!) - but you'd mentioned you were moving to Glasgow and were looking for somewhere to rent in the thread about school holidays.

this was recommended to me by a friend - not posh tho' but still fab she says.

Hotel Britannique
If you are a couple on a budget, but you still want the romance of Paris, this is a fabulous cheap hotel. The rooms are small, but hey, it is just the two of you. It has probably one of the most central locations in all of Paris, though, a block from the Seine and in the first arrondissement.
