Easyjet charging a fortune to change holiday

Hi All. anyone got any advice? Booked a holiday through Easyjet Holidays back in June. We were going to Egypt for Christmas but since everything kicked off there, we've finally decided we don't want to go and we're going to change the date and destination for the holiday. We completely understand that we need to pay the Easyjet charges to do this (£35 admin fee PLUS £35 per flight, per person, which for our Party of 8 adds up to £595!!).

I spoke to Easyjet holidays today and not only are they going to charge us these fees but they won't give me the current published price for the holiday, they have charged me about £700 more but can't tell me why the price is higher. I have spent an hour and a half on the phone to their customer services today asking for a reason why but they are just saying that is the price that their sister company (Easyjet) is giving them for the flights and that there must be some extra charge by them that they are within their rights to add on.

I'm sure they are working within their terms and conditions but don't I have a right to get my holiday changed for the current published price that a new customer would pay? I just don't get it.

Not sure who I'm hoping will answer this...!! A lawyer? Someone who has had the same experience? Anyone!!

Won't the flights be more expensive now to the new destination as we are 2 months away?

It's a pretty over the top fee whatever.
I hope your new holiday is fabulous though.

If they are saying its flights can you not check on the website and see what the difference is. Also look at how much the new holiday is and compare the prices. Don't give up they have to provide you with a complete breakdown ..also print iff the T&C and read them carefully.

thanks for taking the time to come back. the new holiday we re booking is for the end of may next year so the flights should be as cheap now as they will ever be (sorry forgot to mention we are moving it quite far in to the future). I have checked the flight cost and the cost of the holiday as if I'm booking a brand new holiday and told easyjet that they are charging me way over what the price should be and they are saying that that's the way it is when you amend a holiday.

I just want a break down of how they've got to the cost and it's costing me 10p a minute discussing it with them!

I agree that it's annoying of them not to be able to tell you what the price would be to book now.

But the reason that it was cheap in the first place was probably because it was booked as non-changeable and non-refundable.

Flexible tickets for anything cost more than fixed ones.

'thats the way when its a new holiday" ask for a complete breakdown of where they get the £700 from , admin, upgrade, relocation or whatever ..not just a computer quote ...

I have been stung by EJ like this too, they do make unreasonable charges for any change. I think you will just have to cough up the nearly £100 each and just look forward to a holiday somewhere safe. It is worth it to avoid Egypt at the moment definitely. Hope you have a great time and don't let this expense spoil it for you, at least you can change it.

Is there any current foreign office advice about travel to Egypt?
You could use that to cancel and claim on your insurance, then rebook?

lovelymama · 22/10/2013 19:55

Nope cremolafoam, our government are saying it's fine to go, we just don't want to take the chance. I know it's my choice, therefore I'm ok to pay the fees that they have discolsed in their T and Cs, even thought it's lots of money, it's transparent so I understand it.

It's the fact that they won't let me have the new holiday I want to swap to at the price that a new customer would pay. Why should I have to pay £700 more for the same holiday, just because I'm amending my booking?!
