Christmas Break in Copenhagen for family of 4

Hi all. I am thinking that we'd like to go away for Christmas, perhaps from the 23rd to the 28th so 4 or 5 nights, to somewhere like Copenhagen. We're a family of 4, DC are 9 and 6. I just don't know where to start. We don't know anyone there so we'd like to be taken care of in terms of knowing where we're going to spend Christmas day, being in a child friendly hotel, etc. Has anyone ever done anything like it? Many thanks.

Just be aware that as in the UK a lot of things shut down on Christmas day and the days around it eg tourist attractions, wherever in Europe you go. So you will need a hotel with lots to do,wandering round deserted streetscan quickly lose its appeal. c. Have been to copenhagen at new year pre dc, had a lovely time, very cold and gets dark early. Everything shut on new years day as per UK but very lively new years eve.

givemeaclue that's exactly what I suspected, that the streets would be deserted on Christmas day. A family oriented hotel with activities for children would be ideal, just not sure where to find that.

Just check its not just Christmas day, Christmas eve is big in Denmark and there may be a boxing day equivalent as well.

Have you looked on tripadvisor for family hotels?

We went to Copenhagen last December with our DCs aged 5 and 8 though early in the month so no help with the christmas period!!

Although everything is obviously in Danish, it is really self explanatory and everyone speaks very good English. We stayed at the Marriott Copenhagen in a family room which was very good and central location. They certainly had parties and meals but not sure it's was child based. I think you need to check what is going to be open first really. It's is an brilliant city to take kids to - there is Tivoli gardens, canal cruises, the childrens museum, christmas markets and lego! But all of this may go to pot if shut down for 2 or 3 days.
