I don't find my Birkenstocks comfortable enough there. The ones I linked to have a really soft, spongy bit to tread on, unlike the Birkies - it's like putting your feet into two clouds :)

We're also having a night at Universal - well, 2 nights this time round :) We did it for the first time last year and it was BRILLIANT. We're doing MNSSHP (yikes at the $$$ !!!) but not HHN.

ChestyTheSnowman · 19/01/2015 15:08

I'm a bit scared about doing HHN but DB really wants to go. I'm a proper wimp!

Which universal hotel are you doing? We're thinking RPR but hear there's some building work going on?

The Go Walks are supposed to be cloud like too but can't get over the unprettiness of them Blush

LucasNorthsBaubles · 19/01/2015 18:45

RPR was where we stayed last time and was planning to as well this time but I hadn't heard about the building going on. The pool there is to die for! They have dive-in movies - a big cinema screen set up next to the pool so you can swim and watch a movie at the same time :)

I could NEVER do HNN, I can't bear anything that makes me jump!

Just Googled the Go Walks - yuk :) I keep hearing about them on the Dibb but didn't know what they looked like. I can imagine them being annoying with the Florida rain though - my sandals dry out very quickly whereas those would just stay wet, I reckon?

Where are you staying, Chesty?

ChestyTheSnowman · 19/01/2015 19:17

I'm sure I read it on the dibb today, will have another look and see if there's anymore info. It does look lovely! Think we'll still go there.

We're staying at Rosen inn at pointe Orlando, nice place. We stayed there last time.

The thought of HHN makes me want to curl up in a ball on the floor but DB reeeealllyyy wants to do it Hmm I'm trying to be brave and charitable!
Are you dressing up for MNSSHP?

I know the go walks are ugggllyyyy! People seem to rave about them.

LucasNorthsBaubles · 19/01/2015 22:16

Think I will dress up for MNSSHP, yes. DD (11yo) is VERY excited about it because you get to dress up as anything there, instead of the witch/skeleton/cat thing that we do in the UK! She currently has her eye on a Doctor Who outfit... not sure what I'll do but it has to be (a) cheap and (b) not take up much room in the suitcase!

My latest planning obsession is magic bands - I've never had one before but am going to buy some this time and am disproportionately excited about them :) You can buy covers for them and everything!

ChestyTheSnowman · 19/01/2015 23:20

Cheap, packable and make me look a size 8 are my requirements! ( I most def am not a size 8)

Am I right in thinking you can only get magic bands there unless you're stating onsite?

Nope, I'm still shoe obsessing Grin

HesMyLobster · 19/01/2015 23:45

The last 2 or 3 times we've been, I have worn Havaianna flip flops. They are light, waterproof, comfortable, spongy (like walking on clouds!) anything else just seems to end up rubbing or feeling too hot. I take 2 pairs and alternate days, so they don't lose their "bounce". DH and Dd2 (12) wear the same, but dd1(14) swears by her Tods espadrille things (she's not a flip flop fan)
What is a typical outfit for you on a Park day? Every year I vow I'm going to manage to look stylish, but every year I end up in the same unflattering but comfy shorts/vest top combo! Any tips?!

LucasNorthsBaubles · 20/01/2015 09:19

Yep, you can only get magic bands there if you're outside the US. Even if you're staying onsite you can't get them before you check in.

Lobster, my typical park outfit is a summer dress. It was a revelation to me that you can wear dresses in parks :) They don't stop me going on any rides at all, I just tuck the skirt bit under and sit on it if there are any rides where I might be going upside down! I find thin cotton dresses much cooler than t-shirt and shorts.

Awks · 20/01/2015 09:40

I definitely go with the unflattering shorts & vest combo, accessorised by a bum bag to my kids absolute horror

We went last easter and it was fine, the crowd levels were high but we'd planned our days well and got on everything without much of an issue with Fastpasses.

Restaurants though were another matter - we couldn't get into the popular ones like Crystal palace/Tusker House/T Rex so will be making reservations in advance before we go this year even if we cancel them nearer the time.

ChestyTheSnowman · 20/01/2015 10:58

lobster being of the rather round physique I wore short leggings and floaty long tops to avoid chub rub Blush

I'm determined to shed some pounds for this year!

Ha ha awks my DM was threatened with banishing if she wore a bum bag Grin

Has anyone booked universal hotel yet? I'm thinking of using the AA discount? Do you have to book direct with Loews over the phone?

ChestyTheSnowman · 20/01/2015 11:01

Ha ha! Lucas MNSSHP outfit?

Anyone got a Disney/Florida Holiday Planned Part 2
LucasNorthsBaubles · 20/01/2015 12:03

LOL, Chesty!! I've not booked Universal yet. I booked direct with them online last year and didn't use the AA discount but I can't remember why. Maybe ther was a special offer and the discount could only be used on full-price rooms, maybe?

Argh, have got nothing done this morning. MUST. STEP. AWAY. FROM. THE. DIBB.

ChestyTheSnowman · 20/01/2015 12:51

Me neither but I'm off sick so can be excused Grin

Hmm wonder if I need to ring to get the discount?

I love the trip reports, could spend all day reading them.Y

Are you going October Lucas? Have you been then before? What's the weather like if so?

(Accuse the waffle, painkillers have kicked in)

LucasNorthsBaubles · 20/01/2015 13:30

Yes, going in October. I went in October about 20 years ago and can't remember it - we usually go in Feb/March. Weather is apparently lovely in October - not humid, out of stormy/rain season and nice and warm without being stiflingly hot (you might need a jumper early morning and evening).

ChestyTheSnowman · 20/01/2015 15:40

Sounds lovely Smile March/April was cool on a morning but boiling during the day and really humid.

Heats fine but humidity made everything hard work.

BaconAndAvocado · 20/01/2015 18:27

Faberoony!

I've discovered some MNers who are as disproportionately obsessed mad on Disney planning as I am!

I'm in the middle of writing our itinerary, can do ADRs in early Feb.

I too am very excited about magic bands!

ChestyTheSnowman · 20/01/2015 18:40

It's ridiculous Bacon I think of little else ATM Grin

I wrote our trip plan but need to change it because of MNSSHP, HHN and F +W festival at Epcot.

Bacon most importantly what are you going to wear on your feet?

MissBeehiving · 20/01/2015 19:00

My name is MissBeehiving and I'm addicted to the Dibb.

We're going in October and I AM VERY EXCITED Grin

ChestyTheSnowman · 20/01/2015 19:05

We're are you staying Miss? First visit?

MissBeehiving · 20/01/2015 19:17

Yes - first visit - as we're only there for a week we wanted to be on site to make the most of the time we have there - we're at the Beach Club.

ChestyTheSnowman · 20/01/2015 19:47

Ooooh lovely! Do you have a plan done?
What's everyone's must do ADRs?

I'm thinking CRT for breakfast at MK
Is it Boma at AK breakfast.
Buba gumps ( city walk)
TRex or Rainforest cafe

Any other must dos?

ChestyTheSnowman · 20/01/2015 19:54

Tusker house I mean at AK Blush

MissBeehiving · 20/01/2015 20:14

Plan is coming on but I'm waiting for the crowd data to come out for Oct and also see which water park will be closed while we there. We'll do MNSSHP for sure Smile. Have you got your plan done yet?

We're on the dining plan so we'll do ADRs (I think) for;

Beaches and Cream @ Y&B (DS1 wants to try the kitchen sink)
Sanaa @ AK
California Grill @ EP (DH and me only - we'll get a babysitter)
50's Prime Time @ MK
Sci fi diner or @ Coral Reef @MK or Be our Guest or Chef Mickey's @ MK

The breakfast at Tusker House has good reviews and you get to meet Donald Grin

I really wanted to do Bubba Gumps - maybe next time!

MissBeehiving · 20/01/2015 20:29

Oh oh and maybe Crystal Palace for breakfast on the first day!

HelloIAmBaymax · 20/01/2015 20:44

Lucas, my daughter dressed up as the 11th Doctor for MNSSHP last year. Lots of people commented on her costume, which she loved.
