TIME FOR A STROLLER?

Hi there Just wondered what people thought/do with regard to changing froma pram to a stroller and at what age to do this? ds is 17 months old and we have a mamas and papas pramette that is obviously in its pushchair position. it just seems a bit cumbersome and unnecessary now but I don't want to sacrifice ds's comfort for my convenience! Should I stick with what we have or get another. We are going on our first family holiday in Sept so think a stroller would be useful then.
Thanks for reading!

dd's have been in stroller's that reclines a little since they were about 10 months each

I would say that your little one would be fine and, like you say it would be easier for going on holiday

If she sleeps well in it and this is something you want it might be worth the hassle of taking it.

Where are you going on holiday? That also has a bearing, we took ds's mountain buggy to Norfolk Island because we knew there were no pavements.

To be fair, ds doesn't always sleep that well in the pushchair, and at times would prefer to be out of it, and on his feet. We are off to the Algarve in Sept.

We've had a pliko (not the pramette, it wasn't available when we had ds) through ds and dd and have taken it on holiday to singapore, scotland and cornwall. TBH, I find that it is more comfortable than a stroller, it's not that much bigger when it folds down and it's a lot easier to push. Personally, I wouldn't waste your money - use it for something else!!

We bought the Quinny Zapp for travel because it is incredibly small and compact when folded. DD wouldn't sleep in it though because it doesn't recline at all.

we've jsut done the switch from bugaboo to mclaren at 20 months. its so much lighter and ds is delighted with it as he can get in and out by himself. he's never really slept in either though.

Hmmm, interesting points. Not sure what to do for best!

cheekymonk · 26/06/2006 20:30

It's like a belt that goes round your waist with a big fat bit sticking out that your toddler sits on. It's basically like carrying them on your hip but they perch on the little ledge. It's supposed to stop the strain on your arms, back and hip when your carrying them I've never used one though. Will try and link to one.

Here's a hipseat

Thanks for explaining that to me! Have been looking at strollers and they seem to cost a fortune on the whole so will hang fire for now as there is nothing wrong with what we have. just trying to do the right thing as always!

You could get the cheapest stroller just for the holiday and then EBay it afterwards.

aaronsmummy · 27/06/2006 20:11

You could always borrow one just for your holiday - I have one you could use- i keep it just for the hols.
