Any hints and recommendations? Would love to go to the adventure playground in Brodick Castle..do you have to pay the full admission for castle or is there a seperate charge? KIds are 6, 4 and baby. Thank you.

The adventure playground is free (and excellent), or was last time I went IIRC. Definitely not the full castle charge They might enjoy seeing the cheese being made, I guess, although it's a tiny place. There's an indoor swimming pool at Auchrannie... Hmm, I will keep thinking!

If I remember rightly you just apy to go into the whole castle. It has plenty to amuse the kids- they have a litte treasure hunt set up inside so that in every room you search for a little figure which would appeal to your kids. Playground good. Take a picnic as nice picnic point by the car part so you don't have to lug bag.
Heritage museum outside Brodick near Castle is also very child friendly esp on a nice day. Cafe fantastic value and superb food. Nice children's quiz.

Brodick castle adults £10, family £25. Not sure what it is for just the gardens and playground.

Opening during Summer 2007 will be the new ARRAN BUTTERFLY FARM. This will be located in Machrie Bay and consist of a large tropical greenhouse filled with exotic free-flying butterflies to wander amongst. There will also be a Childrens Farmyard with animal petting and feeding, adventure play, powered go-karts, life-size plastic milking cows and parents chill-out area.
Adjacent will be a cafe/bistro serving light meals and snacks during the day and a-la-carte in the evening. The cafe will have a free outdoor play area.
There are plans to include pony riding and farm tractor & trailer rides where you can enjoy the fantastic views of Machrie Bay and the surrounding hills.
I have small children myself and I know this is a facility that Arran badly needs. Check out the website www.arranbutterflyfarm.co.uk

You can buy this great little 'passport' on the ferry then the kids get to collect pin badges and stamps as they travel around the island.
My nephews (5 and 3) absolutely loved it when we were there this summer and the people in the shops (where you get the book stamped) were so lovely to them.
