Carcassonne with a two year old - tips?!

Has anyone visited Carcassonne with a toddler? Any tips? We have a buggy & Rose & Rebellion sling - should we take one or the other or both?

I haven't taken a toddler to Carcassonne, but I can tell you that a standard buggy will be extremely difficult to push over the cobbles in the citadel, I saw lots of parents struggling. If you can take an all terrain pushchair it will be much easier. A sling might help you for short periods of time when LO gets tired.

All the restaurants are very child friendly though.

We went with a 4month old. Pushchair was fine (3 wheeler type).

We all got food poisoning from the cafe in the central square but that was a few years ago now!

I took ds when he was just under two. I really wouldn't do it with a pushchair, some parts were very busy and I saw people with pushchairs struggling.

I took him in an ergo sling on my back.

It's a beautiful place and it was great being able to enjoy it without worrying about a pushchair.

I think we bought ice cream and crepes but we brought along our own sandwiches as well.

If you can manage a sling it would be a lot easier than a buggy.

We went one August a few years ago. No toddlers though.

It was very very hot. And very, very busy.

Interesting and worth a visit!

As for food - the restaurants can be better value than the fast food cafes.

We split up.

Me and DS went off and ended up lunching in a restaurant towards the outskirts. had a lovely 3 course lunch with table water provided. Young families were well catered for as far as I could see.

DH and his two DSs went off elsewhere and had sandwiches and cokes in the centre and paid a lot more than us.

You can take picnics of course. And there is the actual town to explore too - down by the canal is nice.

Thank you for all of your replies. As it happens my silly phone stopped working so I couldn't log back on and see your replies!! We ended up taking the buggy and you're all right- some of the cobbles were a challenge. Luckily we were there early before it got busy and DD spent half of the time walking with reins. Can't take buggies into the castle and regretted not having sling to carry her round the high parts!! Lovely day out though!
