Sippy cup/beakers through plane security?

Hi all,

Reading the security rules for hand luggage on airplanes and unsure of whether you can take an empty sippy cup onto the plane.

It says you can only take containers 100ml max, even if they are not full. So that means you can't take a child's cup which seems really weird. There are rules for formual milk and sterilised water for babies but what about toddlers...?!

Anyone been through security successfully with one?!

We are flying easyjet to Croatia next weekend.

Thanks,
Beth

Yes many times.

Yes, have done it - they make you take a sip.

GlaikitFizzog · 19/08/2013 16:26

Yes cups are fine. The 100ml refers to the maximum size of container containing a liquid or cream.

To clarify, I have taken cups with a capacity greater than 100ml - no problem.

I have taken through a big water bottle - empty. Fill it at the taps airside (if there are any...) and you've got free water for the journey.

any empty container is fine.

Yes, I often took empty bottles but now I just buy 1 or 2 bottle for all of us from Boots after security.

Just further on this - baby food and drink does not count towards your liquid allowance on the plane. You will be asked to taste the liquid in the cup (and any other open containers) but you can take it through full. It doesn't need to be empty. It's all good filling water from the taps in the UK where water is safe, but if you travel anywhere where tap water may not be safe for drinking, you know that you can take boiled water with you. If in doubt, check with your airline.

That is not 100% reliable. I traveled from various airports and I think each as their own rule what counts as baby food. Some allow everything, even food pouches, others only milk. Some do it only for under-1s, some include toddlers.

The airline can't answer that, you will need to contact the airport. But I would be prepared to throw away the water inside or take a proper baby bottle filled with water instead of a sippy cup.

Just empty it & re-fill it airside
