Am separated from husband yet because we booked a holiday to France we agreed to travel to a cottage for a week - we get on okay now we're getting divorced!

Anyway, he's done sweet FA towards the holiday and I was just getting the paperwork together and checking the passports and his expired last year.

His view 'wing it' - i.e. they rarely check, but I thought that the checks had changed, let's just say they pay attention to my passport in any case because I have a somewhat unusual travel history.

Will he be stopped on the way out? Because I'd like to practice my 'I told you so' kata dance so I can provide a good display to the Eurotunnel queue.

Don't want the French police to haul him off on the way back in front of the kids either.

Advice (other than 'Leave the bastard' - which I've clearly already accomplished).

there's a surprise, not. There's only one person who can travel without a passport and I take it you are not Prince Phillip?

He will need to stay at home, the authorities will not let him travel at all with an expired passport. Of course they will check, its arrogant of him to think otherwise.

whomovedmychocolate · 17/08/2013 19:00

He's calling the passport office to try and get an appt for Monday for an emergency issue - then he'll get the train over to Calais and I'll pick him up. Don't fancy his chances of getting an appt to be honest. It's their busiest time of the year. Ho hum. Guess me and the kids are going to wing it - they are uber-excited because they know I'll climb trees and jump in the sea with them.

Off subject but I thought it might make you smile.
After I found out about xh affair and booted him out, he arrogantly booked us a holiday to Spain "to talk"
Not wishing to have any kind of conversation with his sorry arse I changed the name on the booking to my sisters name.
The day before when he rang to make arrangements I told him I didn't want to go anywhere with him and that I was going off with my sister.
His little cheating rat face was a sight to behold Grin and we had a lovely time.

Oh dear how sad never mind Grin

I travel a lot on business. I haven't travelled to EU without having my passport checked at least once on either entering or leaving the UK. We are not part of Shengen so checks are regular, particularly at ferry/euro tunnel when entering the country (UKBA are pretty hot at illegal immigrant checks these days).

Go with a friend!!

Sandgroper · 19/08/2013 15:46

We have just returned from the tunnel and we were checked both ways. Don't risk it!

Leave him behind and take your "new boyfriend" instead. Bet the look on DH's face would be priceless....

Have a good holiday!

Not surprising they are checking everybody nowadays, wherever you go.... (some people don't "do" the news)...

Oh, and should you want to go to anywhere in the world like Brazil - World Cup and all that - etc. make sure your passport is still valid for 6 months on leaving.....

Bunbaker · 26/08/2013 18:50

I agree that they are very vigilant when you return to the UK. We have just had a week in Italy. We were waved through passport control in Verona , but every passport was thoroughly checked when we returned to the UK - most of them were scanned by computer.

Just tell your ex he is a dickhead and can't come on holiday with you.
