Hotel in Rome

I need to find a hotel in Rome and there's too much to chose from so need help. Would love some recommendations for reasonably priced hotels in a good location, I have been recommended the Spanish steps as an area but all the hotels seem pricey. Cheers

We liked Hotel Taormina.

we stayed in a 3 bedroom apartment we found through rome lofts. it backs on to the Pantheon and was a perfect location - quiet enough for us but right in the middle of everything on Piazza della Maddelaina. My impression of Spanish steps was that it was a bit on the pricey side and there were much nicer areas of Rome. we all really enjoyed going out for breakfast every day. extra space and self catering made it all more flexible in terms of time keeping etc. pm me if you want more details. also have a look at Lonely Planet book on Rome we found this brilliant and make time for a day trip out to Ostia Antica which was fab.

We stayed in hotel una which was lovely. It's a short walk from the main areas and is very modern inside.

We didn't really like the Spanish steps area, it's so crowded and over run with street sellers!

But I guess everyone is different.

I wasn't keen on the Spanish steps area either. wasn't pretty enough and too touristy.

We also had an apartment for the 3 nights as you get more rooms/balconies etc. We used Sleep in Italy and the apartment had a top location but maybe a bit scruffy. Great for the money though.
For my money the best area was the pantheon area which we were close to and I'd have liked to be closer still to the river.
Pick a quiet square by checking out Google earth first. The roads are busy and squares with bars and restaurants will be too. The noise really travels due to the high buildings and narrow streets.

agree with revealall. our apartment backed onto the pantheon but the bedrooms were at the back in the middle of the block as it were so weren't noisy. can pm for details OP.
