Clothes shopping for 9year dd?????

Right, my dd is just getting into clothes. I have suggested near Christmas dd and I spend weekend together without rest of family, in London (?) shopping, cinema, eating etc. maybe an over nighter. Need help though, where should we go? Thought if westfields - but I have never been. Thing is I am not keen on most of the 'girls' clothes on offer in places like 'next' or most of the chain stores - though dd is!! :-)). Anyone have recommendations for us? Thanks

You need to say more about what taste in girls clothes you like. Boden?

caspered · 09/08/2013 19:05

I prefer boden ish in the sense of I like little girls to look like little girls - though my dd would probably prefer 'adult cut short' :-(. But as its our first 'big shopping trip' with just the two of us just need some handy hints :-)

I took my 12 yo dd to Westfield a couple of weeks ago and to be honest was a bit disappointed. I know its supposed to be the biggest shopping mall in Europe but I'm sure Meadowhall and the Trafford Centre seem bigger to me....and certainly with more shops.

If you're keen on London I'd prefer Oxford St over Westfield, you've got the same shops as Westfield in a fairly small area and the actual stores are bigger. There's a massive Primark (two actually), Zara, next, river island, John Lewis, debenhams, new look, h&m.

Sadly by 9yo you may well find your dd has outgrown Boden, mine has.....she wouldn't be seen dead in anything from there. Ditto Next actually. It's all New Look, Primark, h&m, mainly.

You could maybe do Oxford St one day and then have a mooch round Covent Garden the next?

Lovely idea! Your lucky DD.

Zara is ace for girls. Lots of fun but age appropriate things. And H&M, too.

I not sure London is the best place, though it is really fun and glam - I've seen much better kids' departments in those shops in say Nottingham, Glasgow, Manchester. And the shopping is really spread out, so it can be a bit stressy and tiring.

Where do you live?

Thanks for tips ladies. I had a 'feeling' about westfields that it may not be the best place. Will stick to Oxford street/carnaby street/Coventry garden. I chose London really because it is my old 'stomping ground'. I have wandered those streets and Camden many many times as a teenage 'goth' Grin but I haven't done the 'same trip' as a mum!! I do think she has outgrown boden and I can see many tantrums coming (from me!!). Funnily enough I don't mind a bit of black/ripping/zips etc but I can't stand young girls in what I think of as 'tarty' grown up clothes!! Hmm

No, there's a middle ground. Dd loves fashion but I won't let her be tarty. There's plenty of stuff that she is happy with that I think is decent as well.
