Nappies and formula in Lanzarote

Going to Lanzarote in a few weeks with 5 month old.

Can anyone tell me what the local nappies are like and any idea of the price for local nappies or Pampers. I'm not fussy - usually get Tesco or Boots, whatever is on offer. Got stuck once having to buy some terrible nappies that were a bit like wearing a plastic bag because the alternative were some horrendously expensive Pampers! Want to try to avoid that happening again.

Also - formula. We use Cow & Gate but he's pretty greedy so would probably guzzle anything. Can you buy Cow & Gate out there? Ready made as well as powder? Again any idea of prices?

Would prefer not to have to carry a fortnight's worth of nappies and milk!

Thanks a lot

We have just been to menorca and nappies were expensive!! Luckily we'd taken enough but I would have reused before I bought any (almost!!) not sure about formula as DS has prescription milk which we took. Sure someone more helpful will be along soon Smile

Thanks - not sure I should admit it but I did dry and reuse swimming nappies at the end of a holiday once!

Pampers are called Dodot and are available anywhere. Mercadona supermarket's own brand, called deliplus are good and cheaper than dodot. I think milupa is cow and gate or you get nestle formula everywhere. Don't know about price as it's been many years Smile

It's been 3 years or so since we travelled abroad with a baby, but we booked an extra piece of luggage for our infant and took a holdall type bag - it was packed with formula, nappies, bottles and a travel steriliser. My DS was on Aptamil and we couldn't find this it in the shops anywhere. Nappies were much, much more expensive than home - if i remember correctly, a small pack of Pampers/Dodot which would have cost approx £5 at home cost 13 euro. I'm glad we took all our own stuff, but things may have changed in recent years.

We went to Alicante recently and nappies were very expensive. We had DS2 and DS3 in nappies, and although I thought we had plenty we still ran out.
Dodot were very expensive, there were some called (I think) Moltex that were a bit cheaper but very good. We thought we would get some cheap ones from Aldi but they only had the Dodot ones.
We didn't buy formula as we took plenty but they didn't have the british brands, although as GoodtoBetter says I think Milupa, Aptamil and Cow and Gate are all the same. I seem to remember DS1 moving from Aptamil to a Milupa stay-down type formula years ago.

lidl does their own brand nappies, but I've never tried them. The bigger the box of nappies you buy, the cheaper it is. Surely paying for an xtra suitcase for nappies is no cheaper than just buying the nappies here in Spain though?

GoodtoBetter · 08/08/2013 16:56

are nappies really cheap in the uk then?

We took a lot of nappies in hand luggage and sneakily shoved a pack in the shopping basket of the buggy to try and keep the weight out of the suitcases.
We only took four cases for the six of us for two weeks but we were in a villa with a washing machine so cut down on clothes.

Thanks everyone - think we'll try to take enough with us. Booked with Thomas Cook but as it isn't one of their planes they say we don't get the free 10 kilos you usually get for an infant.

I like the idea of shoving a big pack under the pushchair!

GoodtoBetter - The last ones I bought were Tesco own brand - two packs for £10 so a big pack of 50 size 3 cost £5.
