Hi
I am due in October, due to personal reasons I need to fly to India immediately after my delivery with my baby.
Please can some one suggest what I should be prepared too!!
What I need in the flight and any information is appreciated.
What should I carry with me and finally how many days after my delivery I should fly ( I know its upto me when I feel good).

no, it is not entirely up to you. It is up to when the airlines will carry a baby - there is a minimum age. It is when you can get a passport for the baby. It is when you can get travel insurance.

hopefully all will go well with your birth - but if it doesn't and you or the baby are in hospital for a while, you won't be flying anywhere, still less long-haul.

the relatives can wait to see the baby. There is internet and skype.

Most airlines say a minimum of 7 days and some say a minimum of 2 weeks for newborns to travel. As special says you also have to get the baby a passport. You can do that very quickly by booking an appointment but you'll have to book the appointment and hope dc decides not to be overdue thus missing your appointment.

You are also at the highest possible risk of DVT after giving birth which is worth bearing in mind when considering adding to that risk with a long haul flight. Perhaps you should have a sensible talk with your midwife.

Setting those things aside, you also have no idea either how you will feel. I know many people are up and bouncing around after birth like young gazelles (don't happen to know anyone who achieved that actually but I know from MN that there are those who do). I had a fit, healthy pregnancy, had a straightforward quick birth with no complications but then ds wouldn't feed, got very jaundiced, hospital wouldn't let us go for 3 days until he was showing signs of improvement and I was shattered and stressed until he had settled into proper feeding. I could no more have walked to the shops than flown to the moon, let alone achieved a flight to India.

The idea of a long sit with stitches.... Shock
