never been on holiday abroad on my own with children before but would like to take my two DC next year. Does anyone know of any sites that specialise in single parent holidays?

I've been taking my 3 sons away on my own for the past 12 years and we've done a mixture of package hols and organising my own.

How old are your children and what are your concerns?

children will be 7 and 8 next year. my concerns .....well just a bit daunting suppose first time,have been away in England with them but not abroad and thought holidays specialising in singles with kids would be better.

I went with smallfamilies.co.uk to Tunisia. It was fantastic .

They are more expensive through specialist groups & companies.. I took my dd (then aged 8) to Alcudia in Majorca & felt very safe.. I had expected to not want to venture from hotel so chose one with lots to do but in the end we felt very safe walking along the beach & town at night.

A holiday rep friend of mine said the only places she wouldn't want to recommend for me & dd on our own was Tunisia or Bulgaria.

rainbowfeet I've taken DS to Tunisia on my own . Wouldn't do it if political situation was inflamed but I felt fine when I went.

I've looked at singlewithkids and smallfamilies but they are dearer than a regular holiday.

I've taken DS all over on my own, he's autistic so quite young for his age too. I find if I am chatty with people they chat back, and kids usually chat to each other. Same for if I need help, a smile and a "you couldn't possibly help me out please" is all that's needed if you are struggling.

Small families was a bit more but was all inclusive and I spent virtually nothing there. I priced up ibiza on my own with dd and it was the same cost.

Its ideal if u are nervous going alone , like me but its not for everyone. I liked the company if I wanted it.

been to Tunisia before kids and didn't like it. soonlypuppyfat maybe we should get together with llareggub and all go together!lol I will take a lookat small families thanks.

She said many colleagues find the influx of migrants cause a few problems over there. They beg & hassle people & have pushed crime figures up??!! I don't know how much is true as I haven't been there. I just asked her why holidays there are so cheap!

they do hassle you especially if blonde. one family that had a blonde little girl went home as they were constantly harassed.not for me im afraid.i couldn't wait to get home.

just back from Neilson Holiday in nTurkey - went with hubby and kids this time but have been without him before and it works well for single parents.

Best thing is the kids prices apply even if one adult is travelling - so you're paying same as other adults as long as you fill the beds in the room!

Add in the great childcare, activities and great food and we find it great value

I used to take DS away on my own from when he was 5 until he was about 9 (when I met DH).

I always just chose places that were ' safe' i.e. busyish resorts in Spain/Canaries etc. where a lot of English was spoken and there were good medical facilities if necessary.

We always had a blast.
