We're just back from a week in Cala Egos! We stuck to the Cala Egos side for food - at the marina we ate at Botavara and Porto Cari. I much preferred Porto Cari. They were fairly pricey (110 euros for 4 2 course meals plus drinks at dinner) but the views of the marina are lovely and great for people watching.
The best meal we had was at Rincon de Pepe which is on a side street in Cala Egos (next to Molly's Irish Pub). The Mallorcan owner of the flat we rented recommended it and it was brilliant. It's a little hole in the wall and has one chef, Pepe, and a very friendly efficient waiter. We had paella for 2 (12.50 euros each) which was enough to feed 4! My fussy DD had chicken "nuggets" and chips from the children's menu and it was proper chicken breast in polenta and homemade chunky chips. We enjoyed the meal so much that we went back a couple of nights later for takeaway. They give you the paella hot in the paella pan and you return the pan to them the next day. They have roast suckling pig on a Friday which is supposed to be fantastic- we were sorry to have missed it.
If you are after British food, have a look on Trip Advisor because Cala D'or centre is teeming with British pubs and restaurants.
For things to do, we really enjoyed the starfish boat trip to Cala Mondrago. It's a bit pricey but worth every penny. It was great seeing the island from the sea with the rocky coastline, pristine coves and massive villas.
If I were going again I'd rent a car, maybe even just for a day or two (there's quite a few local rental places) as it looked really easy for driving and the roads are in very good condition.
We spent the last day in Palma as our flight wasn't until 6:00 in the evening. This was a real highlight- Palma is lovely! You can leave your luggage at the Lock and Go at the train station and then walk into the old town and wander round. I could have spent several days there just wanting around, eating/drinks and wandering some more.
