there are better places on Mallorca i think

Well, lets say that is considerably less crowded and definitively not the place for crowds of problematic tourist youngsters as Magaluf or Platja de Palma, which is great if you are taking your children with you, though it may not have the nightlife of the most popular places which, considering what you get to see, it may be actually a very good thing.

what would be the better places for a small family? Don't fancy Alcudia, looking for a villa with a pool

It was heaving twenty years ago - have no idea what it is like now though!

Cala Dor is lovely, especially the marina area, it has become more commercialised, but not in a heaving, over-run way.

Puerto Pollensa has a lot of villas and is a lovely resort, bit more low key than cala dor.

we went last year and loved it. went in may and was lovely and quiet but heard it does get quite busy in high season. nice little beach nad the marina in gorgeous, place to sit and drink while the sun goes down!

Just come back from a last minute pot luck holiday in Cala d'or. It is fairly modern and slightly sprawling but not unattractive. It is not a lively yoof type place so lots of families and very few drunken larger louts (may be more with the footy on now).

There are several very pretty sandy coves within the town itself but they do get crowded. We spent several days at the nearby nature reserve beach (sorry can't remember its name) which is a 30 min or less bus ride and very pretty surrounded by woods not hotels.

We spent a few fruitless nights trawling for anything Spanish to eat. It's very steak n' chips and german sausage and there isn't really much feel of 'traditional' Majorca having said that we had a great time and it's not a big island. Hire a car and you can be anywhere within an hour or 2.
