spending money for all inclusive

We've booked an all inclusive holiday, we've never done one before and have no idea what we should be taking with us for money to cover any costs.
Any suggestions please?

I think we spent about £60 or so in the week we were in Fuerteventura at Easter. I guess it depends where you are going and the cost of living.

I would budget for bottled water (if you need it in the country you are visiting), juice/ squash for your room if you have DC and they will need a drink in the morning, a bit for drinks if you want a day away from the resort and spare cash in case you need to visit a doctor/ pharmacy.

We found the hotel would let you take drinks from the bar upstairs so our budget included beer for DH and G&T for me. We also had biscuits for DS in the morning/ time while we got changed etc. we didn't have a car or anything.

Greece so I expect we will need bottled water and so on. I think we will take £200 to leave a bit spare for extras.
Thank you.

I know you've paid for all-inclusive, but please step outside the compound sometimes. No need to buy tat, just try some local food and maybe visit a historic place if there is one nearby.

We (2 adults 3 children) took £200 for 10 nights) but in the end spent closer to £300. Had a meal out one day, and ice creams and drinks at the beach which we regularly visited.
2 children had a pony ride etc, all the little bits soon added up.

I was coming on to post the same question Katy. Smile

We're off to Greece for a week AI too.

I guess it depends how many trips you want to do and if you'll eat out.

We recently came back from Majorca AI. We did a couple of trips outside of the hotel. We took a land train into the local harbour area which was 4.50 euros per adult and 2.50 per child. We took a glass bottomed boat trip which was about 30 euros for the family. Our DD1 did a pony ride at a local ranch which was 4 euros for 10 minutes. We ate out a couple of times. We also went to a local beach and hired sun loungers and an umbrella which was about 12 euros.

In terms of spending at the hotel the only extra money we needed was for towel deposit (20 euros per towel which we got back at the end), though plenty of others brought their own towels with them. Also if you wanted to rent a safe deposit box you needed to pay and if you wanted internet (some AI hotels include these things but ours didn't and we needed to check something on the internet one day). Also the hotel we were staying at had a professional photography team who went around taking pictures all the time and you could buy them if you wanted to. The pictures were so lovely that we ended up buying 4 shots which came to 32 euros.

we took £450 for 2 weeks (2 adults, 2 children) and came back with £120 (although spent some of it on the plane on the way back). We used it to buy crisps/sweets at the wee shop, pay for a safety deposit box, get postcards, presents to take home, etc. We didnt have to buy water as it was given out for free at the resort bars and we didnt need to pay for towels either. We went on 2 trips but paid for them by credit card to leave us cash if we required it.

DS also did football academy training (holiday village resort) so we used cash for that too. They do swimming lessons too but we didnt do them this year.

We are going to fuertuventura in October. We intend taking money for taxis, a few meals out, food on the plane (thomson flight) and bits and pieces for DS as he likes toys in the pool. Probably wont take cash. Will take our card.

specialsubject · 21/07/2013 12:13

you will need some cash, people don't like cards for small purchases. As it is Euros you just keep it for next time.

katydid02 · 21/07/2013 12:44

Yes, cash is the way to go I reckon. I'm just not sure how much. I'm currently thinking of a couple of hundred Euros.

You'll need cash. I just came back from a Mallorca AI and spent an extra £250. Most of it is for trips/days out. But little things like buying buckets and spades, etc. If you are going to spend every day inside the hotel, then I think you can get away with very little.

OneLittleToddleTerror · 22/07/2013 09:26

Oh and yes forgot about the deposits for the safety deposit box and the towels in the hotel. I'm not sure if you could charge it to the credit card. But we paid a cash deposit on them. It's £10 per towel and £5 for the safe in the room.

ilovepowerhoop · 22/07/2013 09:42

our safety deposit was roughly £20 for 2 weeks.
