holiday in Normandy with a 2 year old...

We're staying in a mobile home at the Cotes de Nacre campsite. There'll be dh, me and ds (2) and SIL, her dh and their dd (8). Can anyone recommend good things to do with the kids in Normandy, like waterparks, aquariums, amusement parks etc?

I've google a few times and everything seems to be about the battlefields, war cemetries and the like, which is of great interest to the grown-ups but not for the kids!

Has anyone been here? What can you recommend?

Thanks in advance! xx

The battlefield museums etc were of some interest to our DS when we went last year but he is a 4 (now 5) year old boy. I am not sure whereabouts in Normandy you are. But also those Normandy landing beaches are brilliant for littlies - sandy and shallow into the sea.

There is an aquarium at Cherbourg which we didn't visit last year but are hoping to fit in this time. Also DS was quite into Mont St Michel - from a knights of old point of view! That's about all I think of just of the top of my head. But we enjoyed it so much last year with our 4 and 1 year olds we are returning for a week this year with our 5 and 2 year olds. Grin

We stayed in Gite in Calvados when ds was 2. DH is big on military history so all those sights were on our itinery.

Omaha beach (via Colville end, i.e. eastern end)is lovely regardless of your interest in history.

Port en Bessin - atractive small harbour

We've been twice to Normandy. The first time we did very little except go to the beach and chill out on the campsite - the landing beaches are all fantastic for children and for playing games of cricket and so on - they didn't seem to get very crowded.Deauville beach is also good - lovely sand - posher than the others. We did go to Honfleur, which is very pretty, and on the Calvados trail through the pretty villages inland, which were both nice but not amazingly child orientated.

The second time the weather was rubbish so we went to Festyland, near Caen, which was ok but a bit dropped off - next to the motorway!Served to while away an afternoon, and little kids would like it.We went with their older cousins who named it Lameland, so no big thrill rides! There is a go cart track at the end of the beach near Caen ferry port that we had a go on. We also went to Arromanches to the war museum, and to Mont St Michel, although that was a bit of a mad drive. I know there's a good zoo in the vicinity, the people opposite us went.

To be honest, if the weather's nice I doubt you'll need many outings. There'll be lots of leaflets at the campsite to browse through.

Thanks so much for all your help - I'll be printing this off to take with me! The campsite we're staying at is right next to Juno beach. I'm so looking forward to this holiday, I love France..

anyone else got anything for me?

Thanks!

Oh we were/are further down - our nearest beach was Utah. But they are all lovely. I like Omaha - gorgeous sand.

\link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=3&threadid=179751&stamp=060605182553\this} is a thread I posted on a few days ago. We stayed on the Normandy/Brittany border, and St Malo wasn't far from there. Not sure if your place is close enough but the thread may include some good suggestions. And don't forget the Mont Saint Michel. Oooooh....
