Grocery shopping in Italy (Rome/Naples)?

We're off to Italy on Sunday and will be self-catering for a week.

Though my baseline for self catering is putting my own wine in the fridge and eating out, I imagine we will need some staples in the house. I'd plan to get nice local stuff where we can, but for basic things for 3 children, most of whom eat their own body weight in toast for breakfast and one slightly fussy one, we're going to need a supermarket, really.

We're driving from Fiumicino to just south of Naples on a Sunday. I've no idea what a good shop would be, and what opening hours there are at the weekend. In Scotland, 24 hour means 24 hour even at the weekend.

Any advice welcome?

Oh, and squeeeeeeee we're going on holiday Grin Grin

Hello!

If you are driving along the A1, there are plenty of Autogrill places to stop, go to the toilet and pick up sandwiches or whatever, you'll probably pass supermarkets like Carrefour or Ipercoop as well, they are more likely to be open longer on Sundays. Once you find where you're staying it will be easier to find a place, but if it's small or rural it might shut on Sundays or only open until 12.

Thanks very much. We're going to be outside Sorrento so quite rural, that's why I wanted to pick up some things on the way! Once we get there we can scope out the village etc for the rest of the week. We're getting very excited so thanks for your help.
